The ultimate?
I've seen a fair few comments recently from people saying playing for the Lions is the ultimate.
I just wanted to see what people's thoughts were?
If you were a professional player and had the choice of either a Lions test series win or a World Cup win with your country, which would you pick?
I have no hesitation in picking a World Cup win! To me, that is the ultimate.
The Lions is a very special thing but is not as big as a World Cup win.

Re: The ultimate?
IMHO
Picked for the Lions > picked for your country
Winning Lions tour > winning 6N
Winning Lions tour ? 6N grand slam
Winning Lions tour << winning WC
Picked for the Lions > picked for your country
Winning Lions tour > winning 6N
Winning Lions tour ? 6N grand slam
Winning Lions tour << winning WC
Re: The ultimate?
I see why they say it is the ultimate as there is a bigger player pool. Most UK internationals don't earn a Lions cap. Once you have been selected and can say you are officially a Lion you have reached the pinnacle of what you can achieve in terms of selection.
That being said there is nothing like winning with you mates. I would certainly put winning a WC above winning a Lions test and I bet a lot of players would treasure a club European Cup trophy higher as well.

Re: The ultimate?
I struggle to 'get up' for the Lions tour as it is? For me a Lions tour comes in below the AWC.

Re: The ultimate?
Th Ultimate thing any player could do for me is to perform well for his club. Club Trophies are what matter in any game, as for the rest well I'm not too impressed.
Re: The ultimate?
Feel like RWC comes out on top for me. Lions would be great, don't get me wrong, but competing against all other nations for the big one has to be the ultimate achievement in the game.
He he shamone, but with a better touch

Re: The ultimate?
Winning a world cup would be the ultimate, but which of the home nations has a realistic chance of achieving that?
Probably only England. So maybe the ultimate for the other nations would be being selected for a Lions' tour.

Re: The ultimate?
If you had to pick playing for England (or your respective country) or the Lions there could only be one option for most players.
Re: The ultimate?
Slightly off topic, but this one always divides people:
Would you rather Tigers win the Champions Cup, or watch your country win the World Cup?

Re: The ultimate?
Easy iceman, England! I'm very much a country then club fan, there are plenty of times I've given my ST to friends during 6N and AIs
Re: The ultimate?
No offence, but I always find those questions pretty daft since it is literally never a choice you have to make.
Re: The ultimate?
Cheers Iain, good contribution.
I assume you're not a fan of fictional films either?!
Of course it's a daft question. It's purely hypothetical and a bit of fun.

Re: The ultimate?
For me it would definitely be the latter...having been there at the grounds in Paris and Cardiff (not of drinking age though) when we won our European cups I can say I would trade them both to have been there in Sydney in 2003
