I am not concerned about rumours that our management think of him as a winger - yes he is listed as a winger in the squad details but there is only one full back named and I know who I would prefer as FB and it isn't MT. I would be more worried about the possibility of Halfpenny coming. Yes he does kick his goals and is defensively sound and that is :censored: important but he doesn't offer anything like as much going forward as TV. Would the money he would cost make that worthwhile or would 2/3 other squad players be a better buy? IMHO 2 more good solid players would be better.
Hehehehehehehehe

That much money for someone who has had some unfortunate injury set backs that have noticeably effected his speed is a risk. I saw some dodgy displays from Halfpenny for Toulon but he tends to improve for Wales and he did play better for the Lions. He's far more motivated for the international stuff.

We have a young utility back that can play 15, kick goals and is defensively sound. If we give him the game time he may offer us some of the skills at a fraction of the price.

If we definitely want another option then we could sign a couple of backs for the price of Halfpenny. Whether we can find another place kicker of that quality is unlikely though.

This is really important, Tigers have to be able to offer players coming through the academy more than an occasional Anglo-Welsh start, there has to be clear opportunities to progress to regular first 15 games and not just due to injuries.

I agree with many of the posts regarding academy players and progression; it is important that young players are given the opportunity to prove themselves at a higher standard but not at the expense of a Premiership victory. Anglo Welsh and A League fixtures plus secondment to Championship teams can prove a players readiness for first team action and they must seize the opportunity when it presents itself. MOC and Cocker when together showed that they were not scared to select young players when they were ready and I see no reason that MOC wont continue with that policy in the coming season however it is easier to bring a young guy into a winning team where he is surrounded by experienced players than in to a struggling one where the smallest error could be crucial and will be highlighted by the fans.
George Worth is a fine prospect, last season he had some opportunities, he was the only positive in our poor performance in Limerick, he is a strong runner has good positional sense and can kick goals although not in the Burns/Williams class, kicking from hand he has not shown the distance I would like but he could develop. In the meantime we continue with Veainu or Tait or we sign a ready made option with Telusa moving to the wing. I do like having a second kicker in the starting fifteen particularly a long kick specialist, every kicker has an off day when nothing goes over and to shift the duties to someone already on the pitch without disrupting the rest of the team seems like a good idea to me.
