Given that today was the first day of pre-season, surely any other players deemed surplus to requirements would have been announced at the same time as LM?

I presume so. I think effectively today was a glossed up way of saying Locky had "been released" whereas the others deemed surplus to requirements have either found new clubs or are willing to accept a reduced front line role.

Will be interesting to see how many games into the season it takes for Ford, Toomua and Tuilagi to start in the 10,12, 13 axis. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later! Got a great feeling about Toomua being a standout player this year.

Thought we had the same feeling about Toomua last season? Hope hes taken his time to watch how the premiership works as against super!

Neil Fissler has tweeted this:-
Lions flanker Cyle Brink poised to join Leicester Tigers
Not sure why he has done this when it was already in the Rugby Paper???

Sacking a player on the eve of Pre-Season, when they've had the whole of May and June and could easily have given him more of a chance to find another decent gig. Lockey will find a job, yes. But probs not as good as he could have done before the other Clubs had done the bulk of their summer shopping.
More shabby stuff from a once great Club that now excels in shabbiness towards its playing staff.
I can't (and wouldn't) go into specifics, but a recent long chat I had with someone very close to a player put hairs on my chest about their treatment by 'the organisation'. So sadly I'm not in the least surprised about Lockey.

That isn't the case.JWM wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2017 11:13 am Sacking a player on the eve of Pre-Season, when they've had the whole of May and June and could easily have given him more of a chance to find another decent gig. These players have know for a bit now.
Most likely McCaffrey has signed a contract with another club and has now agreed to be released out of his contract.

Said it before and I'll say it again. This is a function of having three coaches in one season. Players whose contracts end in the summer can start negotiating with others on 1st Jan. On the 2nd Jan we sacked our DOR, then had another coach who won us the Anglo Welsh and latterly MOC, but while other clubs have been putting their squads in place we have been playing musical chairs at the top.
And don't lets forget Betham had just renewed his contract this year, so was plainly in Cockers or Aaron Maugers plans, before he was let go.
This is an entirely foreseeable mess and lets the club, the players and the fans down.

I don't remember seeing this guy, I see he is 6 3 15 stone and some change. Is he an open or blind side? What is he like as a player?

SA don't tend to use the openside blindside like most other countries they tend to do Left and Right (similar to the french), So Brink can play both sides to the same standard.

I know their 6 is openside and 7 is blindsideRagingBull wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2017 11:46 amSA don't tend to use the openside blindside like most other countries they tend to do Left and Right (similar to the french), So Brink can play both sides to the same standard.

I'm led to believe Locky has got himself a good contract with the Brumbies.

I really hope so, really gutted to see him go :(
