Apart from Rhys Webb, Ben T'eo and a cameo by Farrel there hasn't been a back that's played any better. In fact most have played considerably worse .... I didn't - although schadenfreude would have compelled me to watch if it hadn't been a working day...Cagey Tiger wrote:Surprised you watched, given your views on the LionsRoly wrote:Anybody who watched the Lions capitulate again this morning and was of sound mind wouldn't be so keen to sign him after that performance.
No, my wife called and told me. After she'd stopped laughing.

I watched the game again last night, I must have slept because I didn't see Halfpenny do anything wrong (unlike the majority of the rest of the backs), strange how people see the same things differentlyRoly wrote:I didn't - although schadenfreude would have compelled me to watch if it hadn't been a working day...Cagey Tiger wrote:Surprised you watched, given your views on the LionsRoly wrote:Anybody who watched the Lions capitulate again this morning and was of sound mind wouldn't be so keen to sign him after that performance.

Heresay then. And from your wife's reaction, I would suggest biased.Roly wrote:I didn't - although schadenfreude would have compelled me to watch if it hadn't been a working day...Cagey Tiger wrote:Surprised you watched, given your views on the LionsRoly wrote:Anybody who watched the Lions capitulate again this morning and was of sound mind wouldn't be so keen to sign him after that performance.

"Oh he was dreadful! Awful! Anybody who watched it would tell you that!!"
Oh dear. Did you watch the game then?
"No."
Oh.
Re: 1/2p going for a song
Yes, he's a B&I Lion, so therefore can do little wrong....
Rubbish.
My wife has probably forgotten more about rugby than some of you claim to know. Having been involved with the RAF's senior team for 10 years now, including in a coaching capacity, I'd suggest she was more than qualified to comment on a player's performance.
Additionally, I've seen several comments made by pundits and a myriad of opinion on other forums to suggest that he didn't exactly set the world alight. Since the thrust of this thread is specifically about this player, his apparently abject performance is worthy of criticism.
But then, like another 'expert' said on here, they didn't see him do anything wrong, so that criticism must be unjustified.
I've watched him playing in fits and starts for his club for over a year now, you don't have to be that knowledgeable to work out that he's pretty much in the Lions squad because of Fatland's Welsh bias.
Rubbish.

Lions bias? No, she enjoys it, unlike me.Cagey Tiger wrote:

Player bias? Not really, she's indifferent to the man.
Anti Coach Bias? Yes.

Re: 1/2p going for a song
I like to think of myself as knowledgeable on rugby. I have read a few points saying he had a poor game. I'm inclined to think they could be right.
However, as I was at work I didn't see the game. Therefore I will refrain from commenting on his performance. Since there's no way I could possibly make an objective comment on it.
Had you said "I didn't see the game, but my wife tells me he was garbage", your post may have had more credibility.
You're a good poster and a knowledgeable bloke. Don't do this to yourself!

Job done.
Caveat: I have now seen the game and formed a subjective opinion.
He wasn't garbage but did a very good impression of a crab as he went sideways across the field - in fact, anywhere but over the gain line. He was easily closed down by the attackers and looked isolated at times.
Would he be a welcome addition to Tigers? Tait makes him look alright at the moment is all i'll say.

Its not the vets, its the senior squad, or 1st XV if you prefer.Chobbsy wrote:RAF vets, you will know Dave Wynn thenRoly wrote:Yes, he's a B&I Lion, so therefore can do little wrong....

Re: 1/2p going for a song
Thought provoking topic in which everyone seems to be right to some strange degree!
I'm sure Halfpenny has something to offer someone, he's never been that good value as IMO he has never been that good as an attacker.
As a comparable in the Northern Hemisphere I can't fault him that much, he's solid in this part of the world.
The Lions and in particular Gatland's selections were made to look like mugs in the end.
Warrenball is all well and good but if they must do it then put the squeeze on proper (Sarries style) and stay with it until the over coached bunch have enough leeway to risk playing with proper rugby players!

Very strange being involved in any Crab rugby at any level and not knowing himRoly wrote:Its not the vets, its the senior squad, or 1st XV if you prefer.Chobbsy wrote:RAF vets, you will know Dave Wynn thenRoly wrote:Yes, he's a B&I Lion, so therefore can do little wrong....

Not really.Chobbsy wrote: Very strange being involved in any Crab rugby at any level and not knowing him
Since I'm not in the RAF, have never served in the RAF, don't have anything to do with the team or socialise with the staff, then the only strange thing is why somebody would think I should know him.
