No Griff personnel policy and political correctness do not go hand in hand as some people seem to think so. All my life I've been a supporter of the sensible arm of the women's lib movement and applaud policies that assist in promoting them as long as they are the best person for the job and not just promoted to fill quotas which are wrong in principle anyway.
Re: The BBC - a continued failure
The BBC is biased in favour of any minority. It's not restricted tp sport.
Why does Scotland get more coverage come election time than say the West Midlands?
If Yorkshire wanted independence it would be given as much notice as a pan cake race.

As was noted before when the left moan that the Beeb gives too much coverage to the likes of UKIP and Nigel Farage and the right moans that it is too left wing and full of guardian reading liberals it means that its probably doing just about what it should.
(out of interest today there are 4 Rugby Union stories on the front page of BBC Sport & an additional 3 feature articles)

Except that it actually reported on sports that are more popular and have more viewers than Premiership rugby...mol2 wrote:The BBC is biased in favour of any minority. It's not restricted tp sport.

Now then, Cardiff Tig, don't you go bringing logic and facts into a debate about the BBC....or have you forgotten that some people have "had enough of experts"?Cardiff Tig wrote:Except that it actually reported on sports that are more popular and have more viewers than Premiership rugby...mol2 wrote:The BBC is biased in favour of any minority. Re: The BBC - a continued failure
Absolutely right that it should cover the higher soccer leagues - but it seems to devote more time to the trivial soccer leagues that get watched by 2 men and a dog than top level rugby in England.Cardiff Tig wrote:Except that it actually reported on sports that are more popular and have more viewers than Premiership rugby...mol2 wrote:The BBC is biased in favour of any minority. Bringing it back to Union, a match between Munster and Leinster is more likely to get mentioned than Tigers V Saints.
Re: The BBC - a continued failure
Why would/should the BBC give publicity to a sport that can only be watched on rival commercial channels? You don't find Sky publicising BBC programmes.

Rubbish comparison. You don't find Sky even giving a mention to anything that it does not broadcast itself. Rugby Tonight on BT Sport gives short updates on the Pro12 and Top14, neither of which it broadcasts.Old Hob wrote:Why would/should the BBC give publicity to a sport that can only be watched on rival commercial channels? Also, the BBC is completely different to any other UK broadcaster. It's remit is to be a general broadcaster, not a narrow one as per many satellite channels.

Re: The BBC - a continued failure
In reply to Noddy, workers were never bothered with Rugby, an interesting fact is that Association Football rules were drawn up specifically because landowners and factory owners were concerned that too many of their workers were being incapacitated due to broken legs and ankles when playing football matches between rival villages, the use of heavy iron capped boots was one of major concerns, the rules of football grew out of this, rugby was invented in a public school and such was always regulated and elitist.
As for the BBC we all know it is only concerned about it's audience in Hampstead.

Re: The BBC - a continued failure
Bengal Tiger you are confusing the word worker into a single entity when in fact it has always had differing connotations. I agree with you that industrial workers were never interested in Rugby except in Wales and during the 29th Century Lancashire and Yorkshire industrial workers took up Rugby League in their thousands. No what I was referring to were the agricultural workers of the South,West and East of England and to some extent the Midlands particularly in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire . There are many Rugby Union Amateur clubs in these areas with histories stretching back to the 1830's and 1840's, indeed almost to the very formation of the game itself.

I am sure Noddy meant 19thC, which has been about the level of debate this thread has descended to...
Re: The BBC - a continued failure
Scrap the BBC, scrap the Licence - not only will it save everyone money but it will annoy the tedious, bilious, class war lefties, it's a win, win situation.
Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.

...and, at 11pm Sunday - hours after Clermont's win over Toulon - no mention of the game on the BBC website rugby pages. Hopeless.
Happy days clearing straw from the pitch before the Baa-Baas games! KBO
