Waynetta - too familiar??

Re: Waynetta - too familiar??
On the subject of Barnes, why is it we never get him now? I think I'm right in saying he hasn't had us at all this season, whereas I think I'm right in saying we've had all other refs more than once.
Is there a reason or is it just luck of the draw that's prevented us having by far and away the best ref in the Premiership?

Fair enough, my memory failed me. Still though, we haven't had him for ages.

Re: Waynetta - too familiar??
Hadn't see this post, so late in replying. Glad the question has been raised. I don't like the Referee using Christian Names, mainly because, for me, it just doesn't sit right - the Ref should "keep a distance". What is happening though is Refs referring to some players by their Christian Names, and some not. This is either because, I think -
a) He wants to be pally with just the chosen few; or
b) He simply doesn't know all the players' Christian Names (most likely).
So I doubt the Ref can know the Christian Names of nearly 50 players, so discriminatory treatment has to be the norm, unless, of course, he stops using names, and calls all players by colour/number, which I think I prefer.

I could agree with you...but then we'd both be wrong.
Re: Waynetta - too familiar??
Just to add fuel, Nigel sometimes says stuff in Welsh to Welsh speakers, including our own OW. Probably comments like 'great tackle on that miserable git'.

Re: Waynetta - too familiar??
Speaking of Nigel Owens I listened to a wonderful edition of "Desert Island Discs" recently with dear Nigel in the chair. Very illuminating, and well worth a listen.
Hopefully this link will work, if you have 30 minutes' spare.

Re: Waynetta - too familiar??
Didn't know their was a ref named Dean Richards or was that a tongue in cheek comment about the Falcons boss putting his oar in at one of the matches they played against us ?
Re: Waynetta - too familiar??
Let's save Waynetta Barnes for when we get to the final
Re: Waynetta - too familiar??
There is a ref called Dean Richards and he was appointed to officiate Quins first home premiership game, the season after bloodgate.Noddy555 wrote:Didn't know their was a ref named Dean Richards or was that a tongue in cheek comment about the Falcons boss putting his oar in at one of the matches they played against us ?

Ironic or what Tigerbeat!
Re: Waynetta - too familiar??
I don't like the ref using first names on the pitch - that level of familiarity doesn't sit comfortably, particularly in the current era of players screaming appeals for offside and the like. Using the number is fine as it infers objectivity and impartiality in an era where the decision is being questioned.
Happier with first names in cricket where players generally accept the umpire's call politely, and at the top level they have direct access to reviews rather than it being a personal challenge to the official.
