Aaron Mauger rumour - now going to Highlanders

Post by Old Hob »

A rumour reported by Bleddyn during commentary today is that Mauger will be going to Northampton and there will be a clear out there of at least Mallinder and West

Mauger to saints has been going round a while.

But no way Saints will chop Mallinder and/or West they can't afford it.

If it was the Tigers Mallinder el al would have been gone a long time ago.
Thankfully---------for us that is------they are still in situ....

Mauger would be a massive improvement for them. But unlikely.

Cant afford to clear out Mallinder /West- Can't afford to keep them.
Rightly or wrongly Tigers cleared out and our fortunes have turned.
Utter capitulation against Executor at Saturday.

Aaron could be a great Fit - but would he???

I have every respect for Aaron Mauger as a player but his coaching credentials were more on hope than his record, his appointment destabilised the coaching team at Tigers and the style he wanted was good for sunny days when all your best players were available and on form but for a dreary away trip with a few key players not there or not performing well, you needed a baser plan.
As Neil Back has shown being an astute player does not translate to being an astute coach, in fact it is probably a hindrance, fantastic players see and can do things normal mortals cannot, this can be a weakness as a coach.
Whatever I wish him well.

Congratulation to the Highlanders on signing Aaron as head coach for next year and congratulations to Aaron for getting a good job so quickly. Pity he will not be there for the Lions game as he will not be moving to Dunnie until July but I will be looking out for him.
