There's an element of horses for courses, making it very difficult to pick a best 23. Plus form changes. But for argument's sake...

15. Veainu
14. Betham
13. Tuilagi
12. Toomua
11. Pietersen
10. Burns
9. Ben Youngs
1. Ayerza
2. Tom Youngs
3. Cole
4. Barrow
5. Fitzgerald
6. Mike Williams
7. O'Connor
8. McCaffrey

16. Thacker
17. Genge
18. Mulipola
19. Kitchener
20. Croft
21. Harrison
22. Tait.
23. Owen Williams

And that leaves out a HELL of a lot of talent. Goes to show how badly stung by injuries we really are at the minute.

Good team, the one I would definitely swap would be Adam Thompstone for JPP

Thompstone is a very reliable player. It's harsh leaving him out.

But I think many have forgotten how good JPP was at the beginning of the season. He clearly looked a class act, very intelligent and very aware. For me, we've really missed him. He has been a prominent Springbok for a good few years for a reason.

Like I said, horses for courses and a lot of talent misses out on whatever your 23 is.

In reality Evans will be rotated in and get lots of game time. In the second row, I'm comfortable with any of our locking options starting. I really rate Slater but one of them has to miss out.

Are you serious.. Thompstone for JPP? JPP is one of the best wingers in the prem when hes fit. He was our best player at the beginning of the season

If Thompston was anything but English or Kiwi, he'd have been capped! :smt011

Fully fit squad our best for my money is:

1.Genge 2.OTY 3.Cole 4.Barrow 5.Slater 6.M Williams 7.Evans 8.McCaffery
9.YBY 10.Burns 11.JPP 12.Toomua 13.Tuilagi 14.Thompstone 15.Veainu

16.H Thacker 17.Ayerza 18.Mulipola 19.Kitchener 20.O'Connor 21.Harrison 22.O Williams 23.Betham

Tbh I'd just as happily have Harry Thacker covering back row from the bench instead of O'Connor with McGuigan covering hooker.

At full strength we could reach this season:

1.Genge 2.OTY 3.Cole 4.Barrow 5.Slater 6.M Williams 7.Evans 8.McCaffery
9.YBY 10.Burns 11.JPP 12.Smith 13.Mermoz 14.Tombstone 15.Veainu

16.Thacker 17.Ayerza 18.Cilliers/Bateman/Balmain 19.Kitchener 20.O'Connor 21.Harrison 22.Williams 23.Betham

There is absolutely no evidence that Marcos Ayerza is past it. True he has been injured for a while but one of the few long term injuries he has had

His scrummaging is still strong, his handling is superb, and defence sound. True he is not the ball carrier of let's say Genge but what many people who have not played in the tight 5 forget is the work done in loose contact situations. Aftermath of lineouts, in the rucks and driving mauls. Note how good the attacking or defending maul is when a particular player leaves or enters the field of play. For example the absence of Martin Johnson or Dean Richards left such a hole it could change the game. To me it is no coincide ce that our maul has looked very depleted since marcos' calf twanged defending such a position those many weeks ago.

Genge is a very fine player and will I am sure develop into one of the finest looseheads in the world. However that is a position that Marcos Ayerza has held for a decade and would have double the caps if it had not been for a certain Ronnie Roncero keeping him out for years. Under studying great players can only enhance the understudy so let Genge bide his time for a moment longer to learn from a master.... and remember all that is great is not always seen in the world of front 5 rugby.

Those that don't include O'conner and Fitzgerald in the starting 15 and then complain about the lack of phsycality are getting wrong in my opinion. Agree with comments re Ayerza, after the last couple of weeks Hamilton deserves a run at 8, and Thompstone ahead of a fully fit JPP really ?? Finally there has been a huge amount of criticism of OTY on here and yet people still pick him.

Ayerza, Mcguigan, Cole, Barrow, Fitzgerald, Williams, O'Connor, Hamilton , Youngs, Burns, JPP, Tomua, Tuilagi, Betham, Veianu .

Youngs, Genge, Mulipola, Slater, McCaffrey, Harrison, Williams, Thompstone
