Sam Yawayawa
Signed a year long dual contract with Nottingham.
Good stuff IMO, first time in a while a proper dual contract has been signed. Hopefully we will be able to see him play in the LV cup.

A good deal for all involved, It seems Yawayawa is really highly rated so I look forwards to seeing his progress
Re: Sam Yawayawa
As mentioned in another thread, he will feature in tomorrows 7s. Shown on BT sport, for those with access.
In my defence, I was left unsupervised….

Very poor results - very unimpressive.loretta wrote: in tomorrows 7s. Shown on BT sport, for those with access.
I could agree with you...but then we'd both be wrong.
Re: Sam Yawayawa
Do you mean Yawayawa or Tigers were impressive?

I only watched the game v Newcastle, and I thought that the team was very poor, and nowhere near the standard I would have expected.

Re: Sam Yawayawa
You expected a squad whose oldest player was 19 and who had a single Premiership appearance to do over a Falcons team who had players with ample senior experience? Really? The players we put out haven't even reached full physical maturity let alone got anywhere near the experience of that Falcons team.Phil B wrote:I only watched the game v Newcastle, and I thought that the team was very poor, and nowhere near the standard I would have expected.
The fact they didn't put forty on us and leave us with nil should mean we give the boys credit. Especially since they also recorded a bonus point victory over a Worcester side who on paper should not have lost to us. We don't have a god given right to win just by showing up. Those youngsters will have learnt something and hopefully will show more in the LV as the continue to progress.
Re: Sam Yawayawa
Odogwu ran in 8 tries and looked mightily impressive in the 7's format. I'll be watching his progression in the 15 man game with interest.

Re: Sam Yawayawa
Phil B, do you mind elaborating on why you think we looked unimpressive?

Re: Sam Yawayawa
No problem - will try.
1. Player getting yellow carded - quite rare I think, at this level, and puts the side under a great deal of pressure. One minute is a long time in sevens.
2. Player knocking on when taking a free kick, whilst in an attacking position.
However my comment was based on an overall judgement - I did not think we were impressive. End of. (Am I alone in this?)
You can surely only be questioning my opinion on the basis that you thought that we were - er - impressive, otherwise, why are you asking? If that is the case perhaps you can explain on what you base that opinion? Like I say, if you think the performance was poor, why on earth are you questioning my opinion of the standard of play in one match?
Please do not list all the excuses - young, inexperienced etc., as that is a separate argument, (although a perfectly valid one as to why we were poor, but not one that turns a poor performance into a good one).

Re: Sam Yawayawa
Yellow cards in Sevens are quite common and the penalty of two minutes in the sin bin really puts the team under pressure. Looking forward to watching the Olympic Sevens.Phil B wrote:No problem - will try.

For the players that we picked, we didn't do too badly. They gave it 100% and there were some good pieces of team and individual play. No, it wasn't the best performance but I wouldn't say we were unimpressive.
Re: Sam Yawayawa
What I watched (2 games)was very young players showing some good heads up thinking and some skill. I didn't see a side stacked with ringers, specialists or experienced older players - which I had seen with other teams in this and the other rounds.ellis9 wrote:For the players that we picked, we didn't do too badly. I didn't expect much else given the selection.

I agree that other rounds were stacked with good players both young and older.jgriffin wrote:What I watched (2 games)was very young players showing some good heads up thinking and some skill. Quins for example had a good blend.
Does anyone not think that Tigers are being a bit cruel in sending an entire bunch of kids?
It does seem a pointless exercise if they are so wet behind the ears that they canno't be judged fairly and what kind of learning experience is it, how to take a beating!
I did also see some heads up play, but it was mostly born out of desperation rather than creativity, that's not a good learning experience IMO and teaches high risk play which they are often discarded for in XV's.
A chip over the top from within your own 22 in 7's is a clearance kick into touch in XV's.
What they are asking these kids to do in development terms is very unfair.

Re: Sam Yawayawa
We send youngsters as the tournament comes at the wrong time in preseason to send 1st XV players with some not even back yet and some only just got back. They are not sent there to develop as they don't play sevens.
