Clearly injuries have played a part in us using a number of different players at 8 this season and Crane and Pearce have gone so it is an area for strengthening.

From what I've seen of Fonua I am not sure he has nailed down the No 8 berth and needs to show he's more than just big. Not helped by a broken arm!

For me Slater should not play at 8, he's a lock and lacks the pace for the back row, more so since his return from his knee injury. At a pinch if the bench has been used but not a consideration at 8 any more.

In terms of the 8 position, I'd say that our best performer in that position has been McCaffrey. If he remains first pick there next season then so be it.

Worth also considering that O'Connor played a fair bit at 8 in New Zealand too.

Fonua's strength for me is as a wrecking ball against tired bodies off the bench. There is a place for sheer bulk and power, he serves a purpose.

There's also Hamilton who can cover across the back row.

Aaron is clearly trying to promote fluidity and versatility across positions, particularly in the back row. I think this might well be it for number 8 signings but I could well be wrong.

He wasn't THAT good, but he wasn't Jordan Crane either, which was enough in the eyes of many.
He made more metres this season than Jordan Crane made in his Leicester career.

Once Fonua got injured, they should have picked Pearce and stuck with him. We had no other out and out 8, so it was a minimal risk and a decent run of games starting would have given us a fair assessment of him.

Instead we have chopped and changed at 8 so much. Who has played 8 this year? McCaffrey, Slater, Fonua, Pearce, Crane, anyone else? Ridiculous amount of change.
Do you anything to back this up? Or are you making it up to try and prove a point. I highly doubt it is anywhere near true simply because of the difference in how long they've been at the club let alone anything else

Why should you ever have to back up anything when you simply don't like his name?
I think he's a secret sinner supporter!

So now we are out we will be seeing more announcements about incomings and promotions etc?

For me we are pretty much done bar a couple of areas.

I reckon the side is pretty much done too. Just the need to practice ball skills and accuracy if you are going to play the wide game which Mauger is intent on?

I still think Genge will be signed up.
I also think there's a need for De Chaves replacement unless we promote Maksymiw.
Finally, room for an extra player who either covers Wing/Fullback, or centre maybe. Another Veianu type left field signing would do nicely.

Ayerza, Genge, Rizzo, Brugnara/Hills?
Youngs, Thacker, McGuigan, Bateman, Farnworth/Nairn?
‪Cole, Cilliers, Mulipola, Balmain, Pasqualli/Hogan?
Slater, Fitzgerald, Maksymiw?
Kitchener, Barrow
Williams, Croft, Beckett/Milne?
O'Connor, Evans, Owen?
McCafferey, Fonua, Hamilton
Youngs, Harrison, Kitto, White?
Williams, Burns, Bryant?
Pietersen, Thompstone, Odogwu?
Toomua, Smith, Roberts, Thacker?
Tuilagi, New Signing/Betham, Catchpole
Betham/New Signing, Brady, Yawayawa?
Tait, Veianu, Worth?

Then it's all about getting them working to Mauger's script.

Strange their lack of development then.

JCrane always seemed to get turned over as well as not making (m)any yards.

we seem to need loads of back row players because they keep breaking.
