Leicester City Council

Post by Tigersunited »

Did anyone else notice the comments by SC in the programme? Seems the council have put the Granby Halls site up for sale and not given Tigers first option. If this is right I would be very disappointed by their stance. Does anyone know any more about this story.?

All is fair in love and car parks....... Surely Tigers will be the purchaser? What would anyone else build on it? Any building would block the display on the back of the Met-Rx stand which would be a shame

Student accommodation at £400 minimum per month PER ROOM...footprint to flog if not making enough for the inevitable hedge fund type leveraged bid. It's sealed bids....somone at Tigers must have pi$$ed off the council.

Is it true there is a height limit on any new building work? Apparently they can't go higher than the prison walls or its deemed a security risk.

Thanks for the info folks. I think it would be scandalous if if is sold to student accom developers, if so LCC will find it difficult to show me they are here for the good of the city. Sadly I am sure these property moguls will easily outbid Tigers, time to get social media active on the subject..

As I recall the Tigers proposal was to build student accomodation, a hotel and a multi-story car park. Likely this option has now lapsed. I can understand LCC lack of patience.

Tigers recent capital expenditure commitment has included the Clubhouse stand, Crumbie car park which is still to be developed, and a replacement for Oval Park, so I would guess the piggy bank is a bit empty at the moment!

The council are probably obliged to put it on the open market to obtain maximum income for the council tax payer.

This is correct and mol2 is also correct.

At some point the site will be developed and whatever goes on the site will have little or no connection to the club. Hopefully the height limit will mean it won't dominate the north stand façade.

We are lucky WR is not a Stade Municipale as it would be flogged off for student housing. There is no municipale left in England and value maximisation is the only god. Mammon rules and has done for quite some time. The only thing I'm glad about is that Rupert hasn't noticed it since I wouldn't put it past Saffas to buy the site and advertise their own club - the cost would be loose change to Rupert.

Slightly off topic I would love to see the club buy the victory pub across the road which happens to be the clubs first offices/ clubhouse and turn it into a bar / restaurant themed around the clubs time there.

Open all week generating income and would give fans the options post a pre match to go and sit down for a decent quality meal.

The Victory pub is owned by the hospital and was supposed to be demolished about 3 years ago!

The club have been incontact with the council for some time to buy the car park site which they wanted to retain as a car park.

It was a surprise when the council put it up for sale for development. Sealed bids I understand. If it is a developer Tigers will not be able to afford it.

It will spoil the view of Tigers
