Not the best photo, could be misinterpreted as a piledriver; bad for Lawes reputation as a totally clean tackler

As any rabid Stains fan will know, he is gently cradling the French/Italian chaps head to avoid any possible damage to his coiffure; he is certainly not indulging in any of that skulduggery that the awful Mr Corry got done for (Corry should've rearranged Hibbard's face, anything would've been an improvement and it could've been done on the NHS).Bill W (2) wrote:What is his right hand doing?jgriffin wrote:http://tinyurl.com/ndvzeqk

Highly uncritical article, in which Hugh Godwins short memory is exposed. Remember his 2 late tackles on Toby, both shown in slow motion to be just late enough?
I still remember an early TV interview in which he said he like to hurt people.

Whilst I am not a big fan of Lawes, I have never really forgiven him for the hits on Flood, I dont think you can criticise him for saying he likes to hurt people. Most players would relish the opportunity to put in a big hit on an opponent and that causes pain, he's not saying he wants to injure players just cause them pain.fleabane wrote: I still remember an early TV interview in which he said he like to hurt people.

Seconded - with every tackle you're looking to hurt your opponent (bruised ribs, tender cheeks from being knocked backwards etc.). If you get a good, and legal, hit in and they come out of it a bit tender or stunned they'll be wary next time and may ship the ball down the line sooner, take their eyes off when receiving the ball and knock on, or generally have a mare of a gamekingol22 wrote:Whilst I am not a big fan of Lawes, I have never really forgiven him for the hits on Flood, I dont think you can criticise him for saying he likes to hurt people. It also neglects the ACTUAL reasons for tackling that are the PURPOSEFUL part of the game - stopping opposition movements and challenge/dispossession/turnover.

And the purpose of a scrum is just to restart the game.jgriffin wrote:It also neglects the ACTUAL reasons for tackling that are the PURPOSEFUL part of the game - stopping opposition movements and challenge/dispossession/turnover.
But ask any tight five forward if they believe that only purpose of the scrum is a quick restart and they'll tell you that it's so much more than that.
Just like a tackle.
