Soggypitch, I don't think the problem is our DOR.
But there is something wrong when we cannot do a deal with someone who is consistently one of the best players in the Northern Hemisphere, whose family are settled, and who does want to stay.

Re: Thank you Julian Salvi
The flip side of that is that the club possibly put an offer on the table earlier in the season that was turned down by Salvi's representative. In the mean time the club still has to manage the rest of the squad. Salvi's agent comes back but the money is no longer available to even offer a contract...Bowden Tiger wrote:Soggypitch, I don't think the problem is our DOR.

...so maybe this isn't all the club's "mismanagement" as some might like it to be.
Re: Thank you Julian Salvi
And further into mean time, the club had to find a 7 as Salvi hadn't signed and there weren't many left to choose from, so got on with a signing absent Salvi's signature, which he may have regretted..... which is the version I heard from high up.Hot_Charlie wrote:

Re: Thank you Julian Salvi
In the nicest possible way, can we keep this thread as a place to pass on our sentiments to Julian and perhaps choose one of umpteen threads to discuss player retention / recruitment / politics, please?

Even more gutted to lose Salvi than I was when TTTE left. Huge loss. Not only is he a great 7, he's a proper Tiger. We will need a proper breakdown monster to replace him. Good luck, and thanks.

Re: Thank you Julian Salvi
The word is that he gave notice on his leased property at the start of this season so at that stage it was unlikely he intended to stay.
Re: Thank you Julian Salvi
Ben Kay intimates Salvi off to Exeter or France. Whichever, he will be greatly missed.
Thanks for all you have done, Julian!

Re: Thank you Julian Salvi
Great, great pity. The Prem's best 7 by a mile for a few seasons. Top geezer with plenty of new facial scars to prove what a Tiger he has been. Thank you, thank you.
To Toulouse and beyond...
Re: Thank you Julian Salvi
Yes, TTTE has really bombed since he left us. Top try scorer in the league
A number eight?
Now Julian, by far the best seven in England. How could this be?
While there is a warm glow among us following the win over Wasps, let no-one be
in any doubt who is responsible for the departure of these great players.
As it was put to me by a complete outsider. "There must be a complete "numpty" in charge at Tigers to let players of this quality depart.
Mauger has to be responsible for the recruitment and retention of players or
this will keep on occurring.

Yes Thank you Julian Salvi the best flank forward we've ever had, in my view greater even than the great Neil Back & Lewis Moody. Along with all other Tigers fans I wish Julian all the best for the future.

a) So Murphy15 offers a perfectly reasonable opinion that Salvi is more valuable to us than Waldrom, and that galvanises your point how, exactly?
b) Mauger wants to bring in his own staff, hence Blake has to leave. He also has been suggesting players he knows of to recruit, which is why certain players are not being offered new contracts in favour of incoming players. I suppose he's not to blame for any of this? I'm not suggesting that Mauger is wrong in any of this but I'm just using him to exemplify your (hilariously) resolute and unfounded criticism of Cockerill - that he is to blame for everything.
c) Perhaps Cockerill was not fond of Waldrom's attitude, or his commitment to Tigers, or his propensity for moments of real stupidity. These are reasonable criteria by which a player can be judged as valuable or not. Waldrom was considered not valuable and, yes, he's gone on to do quite well elsewhere but that's not really the point.
