Abendanon European Player of the Year
Just announced on Sky sports! After feeling rather badly treated by Bath (BT Sport interview), he is almost as loved at ASM as Jonny at Toulon. Good for him, well deserved.

Good on him. He looks about ten times the player he was at Bath.

Re: Abendanon European Player of the Year
Of course he did. Not that he didn't have a fine season, but now we have another player based abroad that the press can bang on about.
Still think he's a bit flakey. Always good for a sharp break though.

Re: Abendanon European Player of the Year
I heard is was the votes of Mathieu Bastareaud and the rest of the Toulon team that cliched the result.
Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.
Re: Abendanon European Player of the Year
He's had a great season and is well deserving of the award.
England have some great players based overseas. Should we be looking to adopt the Australian approach to teem selection? It may be our best chance for the WC

Life can be unpredictable, so eat your pudding first!
Re: Abendanon European Player of the Year
He missed the one on one tackle for the winning try on Mitchell in the final. Its a great try, but you want your fullback making that tackle.
But that said he scored a great try and has had a good season. So well done to him.

Re: Abendanon European Player of the Year
Moments of brilliance in attack but not sure he would be in the top 3 English full backs. For me Brown, Goode and Foden are ahead of him.
Re: Abendanon European Player of the Year
Tobias Gerald Albert Lieven Flood would be the only English player to qualify under the Australian scheme. No Armitage or Abendanon!

This would be a great idea. Which probably explains why we won't do it and that England will probably be the last nation to ditch this overseas rule...Noggs wrote:He's had a great season and is well deserving of the award.

Re: Abendanon European Player of the Year
Interesting to read today RC's vociferous comments on the ban on Non-England based players.
Basically says without it Tigers would lose all their best players. Of course that is obvious, but it is interesting to hear it directly from somebody who has the inside experience of player negotiations.

Whilst the salary cap remains, and big money is to be had elsewhere, we will have to be resigned that the likes of Abendanon and Armitage will not be involved on the national side.Sajerj wrote:Interesting to read today RC's vociferous comments on the ban on Non-England based players.

As a club supporter who is also passionate about England, ignoring quality players in the national side seems regrettable, particularly in a World Cup year.
Re: Abendanon European Player of the Year
I had the pleasure of meeting Nick Abendanon when he was playing for Bath, a very good player and a very nice bloke, I was hoping that when Geordan Murphy retired we could try and entice him to tigers, but he received a very good offer from Clermont. An award that is thoroughly deserved and couldn't have happened to a much nicer bloke. Well done Nick.

I'll always remember the day the Tuilagi's and Mafi bullied him all over The Wreck and he just kept getting back up. Even had a couple of ripostes.
