Pablo Matera out of Australasian Tour

Matera
Sorry about the translation, not good news:
"BUENOS AIRES - The Rugby Championship to Paul Matera was completed. This unfortunate action that did not prevent the try from Bryan Habana scored his end. Monday was an MRI and confirmed that suffered a broken subscapularis and labrum as Scrum learned.
For this injury, the wing formed Alumni may not be on the tour of New Zealand and Australia, and also in the last two matches in La Plata and Mendoza. Matera will have to undergo surgery and is not yet clear when it will be his return to the court."

Re: Matera
What I feared, a quick look on line on the prognosis of these injuries assuming of course that the report is accurate would sadly indicate that Pablo Matera will not be back in action anytime soon. I sincerely hope it is not as bad as Camacho's shoulder problems ![:smt010](./images/smilies/010.gif)

Without hope we are nothing, keep the faith, a Tiger for eternity
Re: Matera
Arghh. It's happening again isn't it? It just seems inevitable that we're going to lose half the team to injuries again. Hopefully he will be back around December which is when he would have been back from the internationals. Really dissapointing because I can see this being his breakthrough year after a adapting last season.

Re: Matera
Misses the Pumas' RC fixtures - could be back from injury in time to return to action for Tigers when we were expecting him back from Int'l duty.
Or is that wishful (and slightly selfish Tiger-centric) thinking?

Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.

Re: Matera
According to "rugbyworldcup-argentina2023 blog spot" (think that's right), MRI scan reveals shoulder injury requiring surgery, caused whilst tackling Ruan Pienaar. Maybe available for their November internationals.
Re: Matera
I have no idea what the protocols are but could we, the Tigers that is, insist that he does his rehab with the club rather than in Argentina?
Matera, please not another injury
According to twitter, Matera has a partial shoulder dislocation, lets hope the curse from last season doesn't strike again. Mind you if we play, manu, goneva, barbierie, loamanu, bai etc in the same team, I think it wont be us worrying about injuries

Lengthy rehab if that's the case. Possibly the whole season ![:smt022](./images/smilies/022.gif)

Bad luck for Pablo and us, especially after all of the protracted negotiations to keep him.
If the replacement theory is right, then maybe that's why Paul Grant is in tonight's squad.

Maybe our new Kiwi forward could convince a All Black mate or two to come over for the autumn... I'm sure Richie McCaw wants to taste Premiership rugby!Rykard wrote:looking for replacements according to the merc after loosing Mafi and now Matera .

Re: Pablo Matera out of Australasian Tour
Victor Vito rumoured to be leaving NZ, been linked with Reds.
Re: Pablo Matera out of Australasian Tour
just for the medical buffs among us (just call me doc lfj - hehehehe) here is a prognosis for his rehab from a well known medical site (name escapes little ole me).
POSTOPERATIVE MANAGEMENT:
The shoulder is immobilised in a sling for four weeks (stable fixation due to the bone chip), and passive range of motion exercises for abduction, flexion, and internal rotation are begun on the first postoperative day. After four weeks, active range of motion exercises are begun in all planes including external rotation. After twelve weeks, full loading is permitted.
OOOOO - just remembered it - use it all of the time
http://www.shoulderdoc.co.uk/article.asp?article=607
BUT THEN THIS IS ANOTHER PROGNOSIS
Recovery from Tendon Surgery:
It is necessary to protect the repair for at least 4 weeks after surgery, so the arm is kept in a special sling and therapy may not begin until after 4 weeks. Active motion of the shoulder is then permitted and the sling is removed after 4 weeks. Therapy then consists of active and passive stretching performed under the supervision of a therapist. After 12 weeks, strengthening is commenced and usually after 16 weeks, skill sports such as tennis, golf, and swimming can begin. Sports activities that entail collision or contact are avoided for at least 24 weeks after surgery.
DON'T LIKE THIS ONE
Best wishes Pablo - hurry back safe and sound

Re: Pablo Matera out of Australasian Tour
12 weeks wouldn't be two bad considering we tend not to get our argies back fully till after Novemeber.
but 24 weeks is worrying shame as think he could push Salvi for 7.
