Ground developement
Any hint as to if and when ground development will commence.
The Council are obviously making moves to re develop the old Grandby Halls site.
As we have lost out as a Rugby World Cup venue to King Power and arch rivals Bath Rugby are developing their stadium we don't need to be slipping. We are the best supported club and development would only increase bods in stadium and increase revenue.
Any thoughts!!!!

Re: Ground developement
where to start????
We lost out on the world cup due to pitch length - redevelopment wont change that (easily)
Bath are transforming their ground from the wreck to the Rec - about time too
We do not sell out now - so why would any more seats make a difference?
I dont expect too much more development until the Crumbie is forced upon us from a H&S point of view

Less is more....
Re: Ground developement
S Cohen said on the Rugby Hour that they are looking at Finance to do one end in 2015 as with the World Cup there would be an extended summer break & an 8 month window is needed for the build
Re: Ground developement
Club house end only. Do you think they can lenghten the pitch by 3-4m ?
Re: Ground developement
The obvious solution would have been to turn the pitch 90 degrees and demolish the Crumbie, build a new one some way down the car park and to have built a smaller Cat stand as that would have been at the end of the pitch (as would the new Crumbie).
Perhaps they could use some of the existing space at the end where the existing stand at the Welford Road end is to make the pitch longer? That would depend on rebuilding the Crumbie to replace the seating lost. Is that affordable given that there won't be world cup games for many years to come?

Re: Ground developement
Is the new stand not also to include a multi storey car park to raise revenue all week, as well as more seats for match days?

Re: Ground developement
The multistorey car park was talked about as the next stage but not mention by simon on the radio so assume tack had changed for some reason
Re: Ground developement
I thought rotating the pitch was dismissed before they built the new main stand?
To extend the length of the pitch they could extend the stand out over the road as it is at Villa Park.
Is there any room to extend to the back of the Crumbie?

Re: Ground developement
I hope they will not bother about disturbing the Crumbie! Revolution could be in the air.
Leicester Tigers 1995-
Nottingham 1995-2000
Swansea (Whites) 1988-95
A game played on grass in the open air by teams of XV.

Re: Ground developement
I have it on good authority that all plans are suspended for the moment until the financial impact of a non Heineken year(or two) becomes apparent. Long live the Crumbie.

Just think of all the archaeopteryx guano that would fall from the rafters if it was disturbed.jgriffin wrote:I hope they will not bother about disturbing the Crumbie! Revolution could be in the air.
Whatever you do, don't argue. We might never hear from you again.

Re: Ground developement
Cohen explained that it would make sense to start the next stage whilst the world cup was on, which would probably be the club house end.
Smart move as explained the world cup would allow for a longer summer break allowing more time to complete the build for the coming season.
All is dependant on the funds available of course.
Yes it is taking a long time but IMO the club are being very sensible with this. There is no rush to increase capacity atm.

Re: Ground developement
Totally agree with Wellstiger we should have a ground with at least a 30,000 seating capacity if not more. We are the best supported club in the country but please can weget the replay screens sorted first.

Re: Ground developement
I have to disagree with the increasing of the ground capacity, there's nothing worse than a half empty stadium to play in, no atmosphere. If we do have to redevelop the Crumbie on H&S grounds then it should contain the car park or hotel to give us additional income on days other than match days. Now if this new stand is built, then it would make sense for it to be bigger than we currently have, but lets not use more seats as the driver, they earn us nothing if they are empty. More parking spaces and hotel beds in the town would be good for the town and Tigers going forwards.

The plans are still in place. My understanding is that the club will go ahead with the rest of the development when it is finacially prudent to do so.
The plans were drawn up pre recession (the above link was 2008). When we regularly sell out again and have the finances in place it will happen.
The wrap around design should allow for some lengthening and widening of the pitch.
The main problem would be the time to build the stands. We would probably need to ground share the King Power for a season. This could prove very difficult - particularly if City get promoted!
