Do the Aussies have an away kit?

Post by Tigerjackflood »

It's just slipped my mind that I think I've only ever seen OZ play in yellow.... I've just looked in there on line shop and there is just this golden home journey? Anyone know if this is true?

I don't think there's anyone they can clash with other than Romania - who aren't the team they once were and are unlikely to tour down under (and vice versa).

England's alternate shirt only ever was used in "home" fixtures (back in the day when the home team changed) against Fiji. Until 2006 at least we still played in white against the Pumas. Now it gets rolled out at every opportunity!

I seem to remember seeing a clip where Australia played a game against England while wearing a black kit. Not sure if I'm correct though.

Wikipedia (ever the bastion of accuracy!) says that the Wallabies alternate kit is a white jersey with gold sleeves, white shorts & gold socks.

The only time I can recall Australia playing in a kit that wasn't gold & green was for the Centenary Test vs England in June 1999 when both sides wore replicas of the shirts worn in the original 1899 match.

England wore a predominantly dark blue kit with thin red & white hoops while Australia played in light blue.

Actually in the past England never ever used to change at all! The rule appeared to be the most junior team in terms of international status (by age) changed.

However, of course, teams international and club change even when it's stupid to do so where the visitor's away shirt is far more of a clash with the home team's shirt than than their own 'home' shirt.

In passing, and on the main subject of the thread, the Aussies played in emerald green until 1961, when they changed to gold because both SA and Ireland also played in green. I presume therefore, if they needed to, they'd wear green if they had to change.

Surely Wallabies change kit should be black and white hoops with an arrows motif? :smt002

Well although they have played one home game - v Argentina in 2005 at the Millenium Stadium but no clash of colours there.
