How the hell did you get your pet ref again? But like Man Utd and Howard Webb.

Oh well. A good day ruined

You should read some of what is being posted on the Saints Fans Forum, I think they are even more dismayed than we are. (And I think some of them may have gladly paid to have had anyone but Barnes!) Seems like neither side is happy. Perhaps that's why the RFU chose him?

The suggestion that clubs should have a say in who referees a game is absurd. The referee can only adjudicate on what he sees or what touch judges inform him about. Barnes is a fine referee.

Z - Agree with your first point (sadly)

But Barnes himself has provided plenty of evidence to undermine your last one.

As has been said before, if I was an ambitious premiership ref - I would be really hacked off with his appointment.

Do you think that I could get a bet with Paddy Power or the like, that WB will card a player and subsequently it will be proved to be the wrong one?

Maybe:
2/1 - wrong player
Evens - red card overturned on appeal
1/10 - A player gets yellow carded and then a player from the other side does not for committing exactly the same offence later in the game

And what odds that after the game there are more entries on both forums about WBs performance than about the two teams.

I hope to have to buy a spoon for the humble pie I have to eat next week after the game, but as of now my enthusiasm for going is seriously dampened.

Good Morning from the little club down the road.

I feared this would happen.

First can I say how impressed I was with Doyle at Sarries. Obviously we won which helps, but I think he is the best ref around by miles.

It could be worse. We could have someone like Alain Rolland who has a different law book on scrums to the rest of us. And there are a few others who could have spent their day playing to the cameras.

WB was a shoo in because the other obvious contenders had done the semis.

Saints have a long tradition of telling the ref what they (often wrongly ) think of him. This strategically can be a bit of an error. Chants of ''you don't know what you're doing'' somehow don't win many friends.

The absence of Goodgrief from the touchline is a result. For both of us.

You should be pleased . WB will penalise our scrummmaging. We shall now have the perfect excuse if we don't win. It will be WB's fault.

However as we are going to win by lots and lots of points that will not be needed.

Great news, I think Stuart Barnes would be a good ref. he is knowledgeable, he will keep up with play, he will allow the game to flow and yellow card players instantly and will refer to his TV buddies for help when tigers score in the 80th minute just to check nothing happened in the 6th minute of the game that could have been an infringement in the build up :smt003
Of course this is my own opinion and other posters may have a different perceived factual viewpoint.

If Barnes cards a Saint, it will be the wrong one. If he cards a Tiger, it will be a Tuilagi. :smt005
He is incompetent IMHO and has been for many seasons. Vastly overrated.

We do need a ref to have a game and we could have got worse, let us put in the sort of performance that negates any inconsistency by any officials.
"If you want entertainment, go to the theatre," says Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill. "Rugby players play the game to win.15/1/21.

From the RFU? I think not. From the RABO perhaps.

Yes, if you think Rabo, try Fitzgibbon....now there's a far worse ref than Barnes, possibly worse than Stuart Barnes!
