World Cup Venues confirmed
Only four specialist rugby grounds are among the 13 venues for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, to be held in England.
They are Twickenham, Millennium Stadium, Kingsholm and Sandy Park.
The other venues are Wembley, the Olympic Stadium, Manchester City Stadium, St James' Park, Elland Road, Leicester City Stadium, Villa Park, Brighton Community Stadium and Stadium MK.
England will play all four of their pool matches at Twickenham, which will also stage two quarter finals, both semi finals and the final.
The Olympic Stadium will host four pool matches, inc Ireland v Italy and the bronze-medal match.
The Millennium Stadium will stage two quarter-finals. Wales will play two of their pool matches (against qualifiers) in Cardiff, but their two biggest pool games - against England and Australia - will be played at Twickenham.

According to the BBC England will play 3 pool games at Twickenham the other pool game, which will be against a qualifier, will be played at the Ethidad stadium in Manchester.
Re: World Cup Venues confirmed
as expected really. What a shame for rugby that so many football grounds are being used and so few rugby grounds.
remains to be seen how easy (or not) it will be to get tickets.

Re: World Cup Venues confirmed
There's no way grounds like the Etihad (apart, maybe, from the England game that's apparently being played there), St James', or Elland Road will fill up for games, not to mention Wembley and the Olympic Stadium.
It's going to be a little embarrassing when these grounds are half empty for their games when there are great rugby grounds like Welford Road, the Stoop and Franklin's Gardens available.
At least Wales haven't got their way with games at the Millennium Stadium.

So - 15 games in London and 8 in Wales, out of a total of 47. The RFU are really bringing the world cup to the whole of the country.

Re: World Cup Venues confirmed
PREMIERSHIP RUGBY today welcomed the draw for Rugby World Cup 2015 and the inclusion of both Sandy Park and Kingsholm as key venues for the tournament.
Four matches will be staged at Gloucester Rugby's Kingsholm Stadium while Exeter Chiefs' home of Sandy Park will host three.
"Both these Aviva Premiership Rugby venues will provide the perfect home for matches in what promises to be a magnificent Rugby World Cup in 2015," said Premiership Rugby Chief Executive Mark McCafferty.
"Kingsholm is one of the most famous rugby stadiums in the world while Sandy Park has proved to be an impressive stage for the Exeter Chiefs, a venue that will have an increased capacity by 2015.
“They are also both passionate rugby cities where the people will get right behind a World Cup that the whole country can be proud of.
"Everyone at Premiership Rugby wish our colleagues at England Rugby World Cup 2015 the best of luck over the next two and a half years."

The two totalled together are equivalent to WR which is a damn sight more world-renowned than Kingsholm!

While I would have loved to have a RWC game at WR with the Walkers being used at 32K I guess it better to spread the games around a bit?jgriffin wrote:And the capacity at the ramshackle Kingsholm is???? And at Sandy Park??

The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach
Re: World Cup Venues confirmed
Hopefully that means i should be able t get tickets to a few games then, instead of paying over the odds to be crammed into a few smaller stadiums.
Any clues as to when tickets might go on sale?

Yes, but they built their ramshackle and new stadiums around suitable sized patches of grass.jgriffin wrote:And the capacity at the ramshackle Kingsholm is???? And at Sandy Park??

Re: World Cup Venues confirmed
I thought it was the rugby world cup.
Sure the big games need to be at big grounds but it's a shame so few games are going to rugby grounds.
I appreciate our pitch is deemed too small but how many times has that requirement been waived in the past?
The last world cup had too many meaningless games and I fear they will be play in front of meaningless gates, particularly if they are played in soccer stadia outside of rugby country.
