Traffic accident after wasps game ALL POSTS MERGED HERE
On Welford Road after the game (at about 5.20 or so) there was a gentleman flat out on the road in front of a bus with medics working on him. Does anyone know how he is?

Was rushed to the LRI under police escort at a very fast pace......very serious I feel. It must have been bad as they shut the road off obviously for investigations. The passengers on the bus looked visibly shocked!Brookfield wrote:On Welford Road after the game (at about 5.20 or so) there was a gentleman flat out on the road in front of a bus with medics working on him. Road was still closed at 10 tonight so it looks like a fatal. Absolute tragedy whether it is somebody connected to the club or not.

Re: Tom Croft
i guess it was a fan who was leaving the ground, as the police were talking to people in Tigers scarves as I left at 5.45pm. If it is a fatal a real shock as to what can happen on WR after matches.SilebyTiger wrote:Road was still closed at 10 tonight so it looks like a fatal. Feel there should be lane closures on that side of the ground as well!

Road still shut at 11.45 so there must be some serious investigations going on, didn't see the bus driver.....maybe in a police car under arrest?

Re: Tom Croft
Or maybe the driver was just being looked after elsewhere due to being in a state of shock?WiggoTiger wrote:Road still shut at 11.45 so there must be some serious investigations going on, didn't see the bus driver.....maybe in a police car under arrest?
Entirely possible the driver wasn't the 'responsible' party.
Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.

Indeed. Whilst this was a tragic event and I sincerely hope our worst fears are unfounded, I must say I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.WhitecapTiger wrote:Entirely possible the driver wasn't the 'responsible' party.
I park at the cricket ground which means I usually pull out of Brazil Street and head north along Aylestone Road. I have lost count of the number of times idiots in green, red and white have blindly walked out in front of me without first checking the traffic. They also seem to think when the lights at the end of Walnut Street turn to red for pedestrians, it actually means they have another ten seconds to cross regardless of the fact the lights are now green for vehicles. If one of them does get hit, you can guarantee it will be the driver who will be held responsible even if they're doing everything perfectly legally, i.e. not speeding or jumping the lights.
Whatever you do, don't argue. We might never hear from you again.

Anyone know what happened after the game outside the stadium.
We were watching Tigers U18s excellent performance against Gloucester (seriously if you get a chance to watch under age games then give it a go - much better than the first team match!) and all of a sudden lots of sirens whizzed by the stadium (LRI side) and the stadium announcer reported that there had been a 'major traffic accident on Welford Road'.
I hope no supporters were involved...

Re: Traffic accident after wasps game
Already mentioned in Tom Croft thread, man was in an accident with a bus and has life threatening injuries according to Mercury
Of course this is my own opinion and other posters may have a different perceived factual viewpoint.

This is absolutely tragic.
It is not however, surprising. Why do people think they are invincible as they try to throw themselves and their kids in front of oncoming traffic, all to save walking a few feet to the crossing, or waiting for the lights to go red?

If winning isn't everything, why do they bother keeping score?

Does sound tragic, but maybe we should wait to get the facts before we condemn anyone.

No judgement being made at all, just making an observation that I see week after week.

More a thought for the "bus driver"(if it was indeed a bus involved)that someone wanted banished to the bad lands.
