Pub/restaurant towards M40

Post by retsilnai »

Looking for a decent pub/restaurant for a post Tigers Gloucester game meal.We are a family of 6 Tigers fans travelling from Doncaster, then onwards to Oxford for the New Year, so somewhere on the way to the M40 would be ideal. Any recommendations appreciated.
Merry Xmas

There's a TGI Fridays on the outskirts of Coventry on the A46 close to the M40 if you like that sort of thing!!

The Unicorn in Cublington, Nr Aylesbury: Aylesbury Vale Pub of the Year. http://www.theunicornpub.co.uk/
You'll need to book it though. About 90 mins from ground post game via M1Jct 14, and then about 45/50 mins on to Oxford after your meal

The Malt Shovel in Gaydon, village just off J12 of the M40.

Stopped there after our coaches tyre blew up on the motorway on the way back from Twickenham this year, nice people and nice food.

the Cape of Good Hope in Warwick - halfway between Welford rd and Oxford - a couple of the barstaff and some clientele are tiger fans. http://tinyurl.com/cm5ggws

Just a minute from the A46 just before getting on M40

Alternativley try THE UNICORN A chain pub usual steaks etc I eat regularly there no problems - beer is good too A more modern pub

A couple of minutes from the A46/M40 Junction

or 20 miles further on the M40 about 20 minutes from Oxford in Banbury just off the M40 J11 is a toby carvery pub -

Ermont Way, Banbury, OX16 3JT Tel: 01295 276593

I think you can book a table at all three but probably worth a phone call during this Christmas / new year period.- but we usually just turn up

We used to use a pub called the Sun at Whitfield which is just short of Brackley on the A43. It is three years ago since we moved so we have not been recently, but i can honestly say it was the pub food i have ever had and also the best value. :smt023

I would go with The Green Man, just south of Silverstone on the A43. Good food, reasonably priced.

Go Leicester, M1 to Northampton, j16a A43 to Towcester, Oxford.
Valhalla I am coming!

Ian,
As a Banbury lad myself, I can always reccommend the Toby Carvery as per above.
An alternaltive to this is the Porridge Pot (J15 M40) opposite the Hilton Hotel or opposite TGI Fridays in Coventry a decent 2for £10 pub 'Cocked Hat' on the outskirts of Coventry.
Enjoy the game and the match...
Heres hoping for the result we all want!!!
Paul.
