A horrible story, but I suppose it shows that every action has an equal and opposite....

Whilst the guy was completely out of order is this happening because he broke the law or because of who his breach in the law was against?

Since this is not the first case of a person being prosecuted for social media updates, you may assume he was prosecuted for a racially aggravated offence.

An aggravating factor would be public outrage at the comments posted, and this would have made the offence pass the custody threshold, as prescribed by the Sentencing Council.

The point is, how many times to we have to say to people, never put it in writing.

If you're p*ssed or angry then have a rant in the pub or somewhere but never ever ever type it because it sticks forever and can never be removed.

Wise words Kinny but, as I like to say, you can stand in front of 100 monkeys for 100 years explaining Einstein's Theory of Relativity. However, at the end of the 100 years, they will still be monkeys.
Whatever you do, don't argue. We might never hear from you again.

That's true.

But monkeys are quick to learn that if they do something and suffer for it, this will happen every time, so they had better stop doing it.

As a species (scientific fact) our instinct is to think "what will happen if I do this?" and based on that you act.

So if that lad had thought "if I do this I will end up in jail" then he wouldn't have done it. Unfortunately the simple lesson of "crime and punishment" has been somewhat lost these days.

The liberal weepies and hug-a-hoodie brigade have somehow managed to prevent our parents and schools from teaching the very basic lesson that you are free to do what you want, like pee on a monument, but no one will like you or do you any favours.

God bless Fabrice. First post attack pic on Twitter. Lovely.

A bit of perspective though.........If the student (clean record I assume) had hit the player two or three times in the street to ABH standard, he would not have been locked up. Fine and Comm service maximum.

Mmmmm.

The thing is that if proper writers (books newspapers etc) write utterly horrible bile, then they end up in serious trouble and possibly in prison.

The trouble now is that millions of British morons are now "writers" because they can vent their spleen or humour for all to see on twitter or facebook and don't understand that in doing so they have the same responsibilties.

We have a right to free speech, but that right is earned by treating it responsibly.

I have just read the full appeal judgement from Mr Justice Wyn Williams.

The student was punished, not so much for the tweet reported in the press and directed at Muamba, but for the 8 tweets that followed, and which were directed at other people who criticised him for the Muamba tweet.

I am not at all surprised that a custodial sentence was passed, nor that his appeal against the sentence was rejected, having read this.

Is there any response to my ABH point though?

I am white and have been called horrific things by black people.....They would never have been jailed.

Sometimes a causing death by dangerous driving is not jailed.

Did you report any of this? Any witnesses? If no, you cannot guess what the outcome might have been, given each cases particular circumstances.

What is the connection with causing death by dangerous driving?

Part of what I did for a living my friend.

Reporting stuff is governed by the, 'the white majority cannot be discriminated against.' So a waste of time.

The death by dangerous driving was just a example of what I think is a touch worse than words.

By the way.........I have mixed race sons who agree that this is a tad OTT and
they are ashamed of the grip that certain minorities have over the majority.

I didn't think the Muamba thing was much to do with race, as gloating over someone's possible death.
