First signs of Spring
Just noticed snowdrops out in my garden, a week earlier than last year. Have you noticed unusually early signs of Spring? Do you think we'll have a milder blustery and wet winter rather than lots of snow & ice?
Don't waste your time away thinking about yesterday's blues

Haven't noticed anything yet. The snow can stay away though :)

We had our first snowdrops through a fortnight ago.
Whatever you do, don't argue. We might never hear from you again.

Very blustery and mild up here.
And our robins are as fat as Christmas puds.

I'm not sure what this has got to do with anything, but the Northern Lights were visible from Flamborough Head last night.

Not really Spring-affected, caused by remains of a solar flare

We've had them tonight, there's a lot of solar activity at the moment.(Even though they're not really spring like, but the glow did reflect off my snow drops a bit)Kinoulton wrote:I'm not sure what this has got to do with anything, but the Northern Lights were visible from Flamborough Head last night.

The man came round to read our water metre this morning and in some quiet recess of the garden found some bulbs up and sprouting and ready to flower.
Not sure what they are yet.

All my trees are in bud - the willow at least three weeks early. All our local birds are puddings. Also interesting that we have had lots of geese (all sorts) overwinter - go back ten years or more, very few if any; go back 30 years, none.

Re: First signs of Spring
Snowdrops have come out here at last.
My own flowers seemed to enjoy a false spring and were making a very colourful display until the heavy snow and and about 96 hours of constant sub zero temperatures did for nearly all of them.
Despite their name, the pansies seem to be the one species which toughed it out and are still going strong.

I read in Le Monde yesterday that, although we are technically in winter, England, especially the South East, was experiencing its worst drought since 1976. Any signs of that in your parts?

Not in deepest Derbyshire. We had plenty of rain here last night - in fact, we were forced to stay at the pub for two more until it stopped.Ze Stade Fan wrote:I read in Le Monde yesterday that, although we are technically in winter, England, especially the South East, was experiencing its worst drought since 1976.
