Re: Manu to be deported?
Note the BBC's careful wording:
Leicester Tigers winger Manu Tuilagi may have to return to Samoa after having his request for a UK permit turned down by the Home Office.
Quite right. He will in order to lodge his application in person at the British High Commision in Apia.

It appears he only had a 6 month holiday visa and did not renew.Bill W (2) wrote:Manu will have a visa allowing him to be eductated here.Rykard wrote:the thing that baffles me is the fact he has been educated for 6 years and played for england juniors and never in that time was it noted he shouldn't be here???
Let's hope they sort it soon.
He could apply for that visa (student visa) to be extended to attend University without leaving the UK.
He cannot apply for a visa allowing him to work from within the UK.

Re: Manu to be deported?
If all he had was an (expired) six month holiday visa then whilst his passport would be endorsed on exit from the country but he would not be precluded from applying for a work permit at the British High Commission in Samoa.kingol22 wrote:It appears he only had a 6 month holiday visa and did not renew.Bill W (2) wrote:Manu will have a visa allowing him to be eductated here.Rykard wrote:the thing that baffles me is the fact he has been educated for 6 years and played for england juniors and never in that time was it noted he shouldn't be here???

Given the context of the rest of the post I am quite sure that comment was made in jest. But don't let that get in the way of a good rant.jgriffin wrote:Stealing jobs?
A friend of mine opened a factory in Cambridgeshire five years ago. He advertised extensively and exclusively in the area, as well as at the Job Centres, for workers at shop floor and supervisory level. In six weeks he got 50 applications and 15 turned up for interview despite all applicants receiving an invitation. Only 9 accepted the jobs all 15 were offered despite all being unemployed. He turned in desperation to an agency and filled all his jobs in one week. He hired a Pole as maintenance man who turned out to be a chartered engineer and who became the manager within a few weeks. He has been highly satisfied with the appointments.
Stealing jobs? Can't be arsed more like.
Re: Manu to be deported?
Maybe I'm not grasping the severity of the situation but there seem to be a lot of doom and gloom merchants on here. Did Alex T not have a similar issue before the start of this season? All got cleared up OK in the end.
I mean, looking at the facts, Manu passes all three criteria very easily. Also, he has the added bonus of not only being potentially a very high earner, but also a huge generator of business, with both local and national fans paying money to see him play or for relevant merchandise.
I'm sure if Manu goes back now to lodge his application to keep the beaurocrats happy, the club have enough money and poltical power to pull strings to push it through quickly, hopefully bringing him back before September.
I just wish common sense would prevail though in these situations.

Quite right and it will not require money or political power or string pulling. Merely due process.iceman_19 wrote:I'm sure if Manu goes back now to lodge his application to keep the beaurocrats happy, the club have enough money and poltical power to pull strings to push it through quickly, hopefully bringing him back before September.

September is possible. It is "normally" 1-2 weeks to get an interview and then 4-12 weeks for the visa. If all the paperwork is in order he could be back by August.

Re: Manu to be deported?
Is Manu sitting A levels (or other exams) this year? I guess if he is he'll only return to Samoa to file the paperwork after he's done them - when does exam season finish?
