Venter gets 14 week touchline ban

Post by Loob19 »

Reported on the BBC website - wonder if this starts before or after the final. Interesting.

surely it would be better to give him a stand ban and force him to be on the touchline?

And runs until 24th August.....just in time for the new season to start...

What an effective punishment that is then, so realistically he misses one competitive match, pending appeal of course? Makes a complete mockery of giving a 14 week sentence.

The powers that be kid themselves that they have dealt with a situation with a stiff sentence.....that will hardly impact the team at all.

Touchline ban? What about a Matchday ban similar to Cockers???
Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.

I have to admit I would prefer to have him on the touch line so there aren't any excuses after the final - but if you are guilty you have to serve your time.

He should miss the final and the further 12 or 13 weeks should begin at the start of next season. Nice bit of tokenism of by the RFU.

According to bbc Saffers have already lodged an appeal to what is effectively a 1 week touchline ban.

This gives the RFU the opportunity to substitute a more meaningful sentence.

Meanwhile, I am sure all Tigers Supporters and Stewards look forward to welcoming Mr. Venter to Welford Road next season.
Still keeping the faith!

This was a token gesture by the RFU who should have made an example of Venter as it is not the first time he has transgressed. He will miss the final but will be free to begin all over again next season. Discuss.

Whilst token in this scenario is sets precedent for a 10 week ban in the future for this kind of behaviour.

The extra 4 weeks are from his previous transgression which were suspended however seeing as he has broken the terms this penalty has now been enforced.

I think it's quite a nice, tidy warning, really. Also sends things full circle, with him incurring his first suspended sentence after we played Sarries the first time.
