Fine, but how the hell do they miss it under there nose? Also Small might just have been appointed but any referee who performs like he did today and is then escorted off the pitch by stewards at the end like he was will not last long. That will be noticed higher up and delt with. Just like the premier refs in the footie world, get it so wrong and off you go. Is it not normal practice for the officials to leave playing area last or at least with the players?

I was trying to be kind by saying biased. As an ex referee i find it very hard to accuse someome of something. BUT todays performance at times was a joke.

Small has been recently promoted to the international panel not recently appointed as a ref, although from his performance today you could be forgiven for thinking so.

Palletman, it is common practice for referees to be escorted from the pitch after the players, at end of the game.

This definitely happens at Northampton and Saints

Yes Bill i know about his apointment to the Int/board. Was responding to another posting. I really am a supporter of the refs/officials as without them it would be chaos as it is a dificult job to do.With reference to talking to the ref i was surprised that on one occasion Murphy hardly said a word about another bad/dubius decision 10 yards from our line.As we could not go further back why not take it up with the ref and let not only him but most of the ground know that as captain he was not happy with the goings on?

Bill,
I know that it happens at Welford Road after every game.

It has also been the case at Northampton, that the officials are escorted off the pitch at the end of the game (after the players), whenever I have been at Franklin Gardens.

I am well aware that at most places referee escorted off pitch by stewards. But today he was singled out by the stewards and away off the pitch within seconds of the end. It looked odd as players shaking hands etc for sometime later but referee long gone.

I'm happy to admit Tigers didn't play well today - gifting the opposition 14 points is always going to make things difficult - but to say I was confused by some of the officiating was an understatement.

One that particularly stood out was Chuter being penalised for in the side having been the tackler and realising that there were no Sarries players stopping him coming through the tackle area to tackle their SH as he picked up the ball

Anwering two posts at once:

1. I can only assume that Geordan was so confused by the decisions and Mr. Small's previous comments that he was speechess.

2. Likely Mr. Small was scared of being "done over" not by the players but by the crowd in the tunnel. Interestingly I left my seat in the Crumbie, as usual, after virtually everyone else had left. The barriers were still across. I cannot remember a previous occasion when this has been the case.

There were so many Mr. Ben. His view of what constitutes a ruck, maul and open play was all his own.

Likely Croft was amazed at his own stupidity. The yellow card, as posted on the (post) match thread was entirely justified. I am genuinely astonished that anyone would criticise Small over that particular decision.

i was quite far away from the croft incident so can not say whether it was justified or not but there were far worse offensives that small did not even penalise. his reffing was pathetic and he showed no understanding of the laws at the scrum the biggest example of this was when moody detached early from the scrum realised the ball hadnt gone so reattached and tigers got a penalty. there were decisions that should have gone our way but that incident is one that springs to mind
