Having read his article in the RT it was the right move for TV and the Tigers. He hasn't played the Tigers yet. Two sloppy games from Wasps (wins yes but only just in both). If allowed space any winger 'worth his salt' should score. Early days in the GP for all teams - lets see how things are at the New Year. Joe Simpson is the one to watch, he has come on leaps and bounds, won't be long before he get a call from MJ at this rate.Smudge wrote:Like many, I was appalled that Tom was allowed to leave.
While one swallow does not make a summer he has started in great style.
I fear he is going to come back to bite us, and it's our own fault.

Pest, I will defend your right to take the p***!
Tigers try count after 2 games = 0
Varndell's try count after 2 games = 4
But he's a defensive numptie don't yer know? Ask no end of know-it-alls on this forum. We were damned right to palm him off on you.

There is no certainty that TV would have scored 2 tries a game if he was still with us!
He is not our player anymore! Some people need to get over it and concentrate on giving our players support and not crying of lost marbles.

Now, now Kinny.
Yer slip is showing!!

Still keeping the faith!
Re: Tom Varndell off to a flyer for the insects
Varndell was not the only ex Tiger playing successfully today.
Ian Humphries seems to have played well also, with Ulster defeating Ospreys in Wales.

Quote from today's Sunday Times match report...
"Tom Varndell, who had scored two excellent tries, made a horrendous defensive blunder. He leapt up and touched a kick from Ryan Davis that was clearly sailing well over the dead-ball line and, in doing so, conceded a ridiculous 5m scrum".

I think that Kinny had his lingual muscle firmly applied to his buccal mucosa, there.

Re: Tom Varndell off to a flyer for the insects
I don't think this tells us anything that we didn't know already, which is:
In attack he is certainly fast and athletic and a threat and in the right game on the right day will score tries.
In defence he is indecisive and often fails to make key tackes and is a liability and in the wrong game on the the wrong day will concede tries.
It then becomes a question of whether you think his attributes outweigh his deficiencies, but several Leicester coaches, not to mention England, seem to have been unable to solve this problem.
For me though the deciding factor was his attitude and body language, too often he did not seem interested in giving his all in a match. Tom himself now confirms that he was not motivated. That is not the Lecester way and so I feel it was right to let him go.
Maybe he will prosper at Wasps but lets see how he goes through the winter first. I'm not too worried either when Wasps play Leicester as I'm sure we will know how to handle him.

Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.

I am surprised no on has mentioned Ian Humphreys....He helped Ulster defeat the Ospreys at the Liberty yesterday evening and he got man of the match.. this will make a change from Tom varndell
the future is bright
the future is Scarlet Green and White

Re: Tom Varndell off to a flyer for the insects
The whole Tom Varndell motivation thing is a bit "chicken and egg" for me.
Did he get overlooked and hence got demotivated, or did he get demotivated all by himself and hence got dropped?
We won't know until he writes his first autobiography, which by today's standards is almost overdue!

Re: Tom Varndell off to a flyer for the insects
Can we wait until the end of the season? I was at the double header and Varndell looked potentially dangerous in attack a lot of the time, but he was obviously far quicker and bigger than his opposite number (the argentine Quins winger). He also looked very dodgy in defence.
Given a fully fit squad, would Varndell make the team? Hamilton and Murphy are shoe-in's as is Tuilagi. Rather than being shocked at his being let go, why no accept that Varndell felt he needed a move to freshen up (he's on record as saying this) and Tigers felt the money he was on would be better spent ensuring other, first choice, players stayed.
Let's wait until the League is over before making a snap judgement based on Tigers playing 2 games without their first 2 fly-half's while Wasps have been very very lucky to have one win, let alone two.

No one is trying to draw conclusions.

And he certainly is.

He sure is mate. As for motivating players? That's down to the coaching staff.
We have people who do (or should do) that sort of thing.
This bloke was dynamite when he first came into the side and has great natural speed and talent. It was up to the coaches to bring him on and make him better and better. Being left out of the side or warming the bench is no way to build a bloke up. Especially once he was capped.
Huge effort should have been devoted to his progress and no doubt will be at the pests. He's going to come back and sting us I'm afraid.
I hope his detractors will remember, we told you so!
