Lunch, dinner and drinking venues for Saturday

A few recommendations from me based on where I've eaten and drank in when I used to work in Edinburgh a few years ago and on the relatively frequent visits since then.

Near Haymarket is the "West End", basically running from Charlotte Square to Haymarket station itself. This area has quite a few cheap restaurants, bars and hostelries. Probably a wider selection here than up towards the stadium itself, where the bars will be heaving.

I will try to add more to this list over the course of today/tomorrow if I have time! Hopefully a helpful starter though...

Drinkies

Ryries (http://tinyurl.com/ounlk2) - bit "old man" for my liking but always heaving
Haymarket (http://tinyurl.com/qf7x26) - also not a big fan but even busier than Ryries so they must be doing something right!
Berts Bar (no streetview - http://tinyurl.com/ogwr5g) - excellent, local real ales and cheap pub grub (scotch pies filled with haggis, neeps and tatties something like £2!)
Teuchters (opposite Berts) - also very good, slightly more "upmarket" than Berts and famous for lunch in a mug. Downstairs is Room in the West End - a fancier dining establishment (but not that fancy)
The Melville (next to Berts) - really not a fan, don't like the place and food was microwaved frozen food the only time I ate there a few years ago.
The Bonham (no streetview - http://tinyurl.com/quvd2z) - fancy boutique hotel but on international weekends is one of the few places you'll be able to sit down for a beer and even have it served to your table! Fancy food which was pretty good when I ate there a few years ago.
The Cambridge (no streetview - http://tinyurl.com/pqd7po) - best home-made burgers in Edinburgh but you won't get a table there at lunchtime as I tried a couple of weeks ago and they were fully booked back then! Still, a decent drinking venue (think it's owned/run by SH rugby fans judging by the usual crowd there) and will be showing the match if you haven't got tickets. Respectable pints of the black stuff served.
Harry's Bar (a couple of doors along and down from P'tite Folie, below) - not bad, a fancier bar rather than a pub but decent selection of lagers and wine if that's your thing. Also do food.

Eaties

The Khukuri (http://tinyurl.com/oy5fbw) - very good, tasty and cheap Nepalese. Different from your usual curry houses!
Le Marche Francais (http://tinyurl.com/rd64v7) - utterly fabulous pastries and bread, a great breakfast stop on the way to the office for me!
The Indian Cavalry Club (http://tinyurl.com/ot872z) - very good curry house, a bit fancier than your usual but not too fancy. Will be busy.
Petit Paris (can't get a streetview but it's down this road and about 3rd on the right, very small entrance - http://tinyurl.com/q4tamt) - excellent value, £10 fixed price bistro lunch (surcharge for steak etc.). I have a table booked at 1pm on Saturday!
Bread & Olives (next door to Petis Paris) - good sandwiches, not the cheapest but quality ingredients and made to order.
Room In The West End - see Teuchters above, pretty tasty but not the best value when I last went there (which was a few years ago, admittedly)
La p'tite folie (no streetview - http://tinyurl.com/qypw3y - the red building). French restaurant but not too fancy (but slightly fancier than Petit Paris, above), also serve decent selection of wines.

Cheers masopa, very helpful for someone like myself who has never been to Edinburgh. We have been recommended to go to Leith docks at some point during the weekend, does anyone else recommend it or any other good sight seeing spots around? thanks

Definitely worth a visit and it has some excellent restaurants (including a couple of michelin-starred restaurants, including my favourite in Edinburgh, the Kitchin).

Anyone who is not going to the match but is in Edinburgh, The Three Sisters in the grassmarket is a great place to watch the game. Loads of atmosphere.

There are a couple of rubbish pubs on Rose St, mind - Filthy McNasty's is as grim as the name suggests. They're all generally pretty touristy which, I guess, isn't a bad thing if you are (!) but there are better places...

Of the recommended places, are any suitable to take children too as will have my 11year old daughter with me
