Harlequins v Leicester

Post by tigermad »

What a Christmas cracker in prospect at Twickenham as Leicester take on Harlequins. It is set to be the biggest single crowd ever to watch a Guinness Premiership match. Let us hope Leicester continue their winning ways and come away with 4 points. What do you think?

A win would help enormously. :smt026

I do think it is a mistake for clubs to 'give up' a home fixture and play at a neutral venue just for the sake of money. :smt018

Throw away home advantage at your peril. :smt027

Agreed it'd be nice to continue winning ways, but come on, I'd prefer to come away with 5 points!!

Be even nicer if we could say we came away from every visit to their 22 with points (preferably 7 each time)

Not sure you can really say Quins are giving up home advantage.........

(OK OK I know it's not their real stadium, BUT.............)

But they are cashing in on the match, fair play to them, just means more people watching live rugby, can't fault that!!

I think them moving it to twickenham and getting a crowd like that has kept ticket prices low.
So long as they're not charging prices on a par with other events at twickenham then well done to quins for making money and drawing the crowds in!

Sky News is tonight reporting (not predicting) a 50,000 sell-out crowd .
Today is yesterday's tomorrow.

50,000 at a club game can only be really positive for the sport in general. If there are some new people along for the ride, and a few of those like what they have seen, well Quins will have some new fans. In trying to build something positive and long term, it is a fantastic idea from them. NOT making it a profit seeking venture (i.e. cheap tickets) was also a really good move.

In terms of losing home field advantage, Quins have proved in the past few weeks that they can rise to the big occasion, so we'll see. There should be a decent noise following them too.

We don't have a great record at a)Twickenham, and b) at Quins, and the pessimist in me is screaming that we will lose. I shall however try to make like a Bill W...

The prices for merchandising, food, drink etc will be the same as normal, Quins have just rented the stadium, for the day the staffing etc will be by RFU staff and contracted companies.

I think there will be a lot of neutrals at the game. Quins normally get around 10000 fans and I think there will be 10000 tigers fans there so even with casual fans attending, there will be approx. half the fans as neutrals. Could make for a strange atmosphere!

I would imagine the prawn sandwich brigade will be there in force.

Be just like most games at Twickers!
