Rugby dances (not Austin!)

Post by Rizzo »

I know we've had this discussion before, in some detail, but now the BBC have got in on the act!

From the BBC - interesting comment about an English Haka :smt003

did anyone watch the rugby league final?

the aussies walked right up to the Kiwi's whilst they were doing the haka, didn't turn round showed them respect for it but didn't back down.. after all it is a challenge.. thats what i'd like to see our boys do next week.

Or the Munster v NZ match where Doug Howlett did the Haka back to the Kiwis

Wasn't it 4 of the Munster players and didn't they go first?

Well consistency is my middle name. (Actually, it's Gordon, but we all have our cross to bear.)

So whilst the Monty Python dance is sheer brilliance, I'm going to stick to my original choice for the England pre-match dance.

ONE STEP BEYOND!!!!
Kicks and scrums and ruck and roll.....Is all my brain and body need!

May well have been, I only saw a clip of him doing it, but I bow to your superior knowledge

I've heard the morris dance suggested-bells, handkerchiefs etc, that would really break their concentration!!! :smt023

My friend's uncle is a keen Morris dancer. To be faced with a bunch of beer-smelling bearded blokes with intensely insane expressions, bells on their knees and big sticks would be pretty scary IMO.

Has anyone got a link to a clip of when the England team convinced Cockers that they were going to face down their opposite number during the hakka and then let him do it on his own?

Whilst its a great tradition in rugby I do think they (the Kiwis) are a bit precious about it. The Welsh took it to the extreme last week, unlike the Irish who just ignored it by going into a huddle (upsetting the ABs into the process). Personally I think the England team should do a Johnno and stand where the ABs expect to do their little dance before they get there themselves.
Opportunities always look bigger going than coming.

Didn't we have this situation a few years back, when God's Country :smt002 (well at least I think it was England) played the AB's England captain (can't remember who) picked up a symbolic blade of grass in answer to the challenge, & then tossed it into the wind. Got into terrible bother over it and whether or not it was showing disrespect?
To make the whole thing worse England proceeded to get absolutely spanked on the pitch.
