Toby Flood 10 or 12 ????

Post by WilfMan »

Which is his better postion???

England like to play him at 12 but then at tigers Mauger is at 12!!

Is he really big enough for a 10 anyway??

what postion did Leicester sign him for??

I expect he will be here to cover both positions.

At 10 to really push Goode to give his best performance every match and when on the field to act as another goal kicker.

At 12 when Goode is playing well and to be played there to add to the kicking options.

On the whole I would expect him to really be for 10 as we have lost 2 fly-halves so now we have 1 and in the centres we lost 2 but have about 4 I think feel free to correct me if I am worng.

Call me old fashioned, but surely 12s should be bigger than 10s?

As Flood is about 6ft 2 and 14 stone, I would have thought he was big enough, wouldn't you? :smt023

10 surely

I would have thought 10 mainly.

Still a lot of chatter on various forums about Goode leaving. Even if he stays I can see Flood being 1st choice.

We have plenty of centres on the books. Mauger, Hipkiss, Erinle, Rabeni, With Vesty (Cornwell & Matt Smith if they are still with us?)

And that's with Ollie Smith having moved on :smt022

10. Goode's had too many chances now. He has performed well in the past, even being the perfect 10, leading the team to great victories. However not often enough and not reliable enough.

I think this was epitomised in his different performances against Wasps this season. The edf game he ripped them apart and dictated the pattern, not only of our play but also theirs. The other games well... need I say more.

England seem to think he's a 10 so we'll get a chance to see him there on Saturday. He has a great flat pass so might set our (i.e. England + Tigers!) backs going. I hope we play him at 10 - maybe fit Goode in at fullback when the Murphys aren't fit/available? Yes I know he's not really fast enough as a 15 but then I never thought Stimmo was but he filled the position brilliantly by playing a different style. Mind you Goode at 15 would have to learn to tackle below head height or we'd be in trouble!

i think we have signed him as a10 filling in at 12 occasionally As tigergirl has said england seem to think him capable of playing 10 as he is staring against the blacks on saturday one of 6 changes with Care in at 9 noon starting at 12 varndell on the wing tait at 15 and tim payne propping instead of the injured sheriden

I think the current trend is that 10/12 are interchangable (first/ second five as they call it in NZ).
Flood/ barkley / Geragty fall in that category.

For the tigers, we have got to try him with Mauger and see how it works (Rabini at 13??)

He is very much a first and second five-eighth in my book. First 5/8 when Mauger is fit, 2nd 5/8 when Mauger is not fit or injured.

Goode can slip back to 10 when Flood is away with England.

I think there are many that believe the likes of Barkley and Geraghty, whilst being able to cover 10, are really 12's. Just as Wilko can play 12 but is really a 10. Full interchangeability is pretty rare to be honest.

Flood is one of those few players who, based on what I have seen, seems to be equally competent in both positions. Some say he is at his most effective with a power runner outside him (e.g. Noon at Newcastle), so a Flood / Mauger combination might raise some potential question marks.
