Its been discussed again and again over the years on how quiet it gets at Welford Road -considering the large numbers of people attending it has become the Highbury Library.
Why havent we get a Tigers band that could play during the game somewhere on the Terraces - this surely could be funded by the club if no "FOC" volunteers where available.
I just wondered what everyone else thought of the idea. :smt017

I agree that there have been a few times this season when we could have made more noise - but please God not a band / drummers. I would hate to have to put up with the racket that they get at Saracens or even Stade Francais. I guess its a bit of a NIMBY attitude - but would you really want to be stood next to a band for a couple of hours?

So please - no footie songs, no cheerleaders (I am sure that those who attended the MH bowl at WR last year will agree)and no band.

I'm up for the Quins match - I'll make sure to eat an extra-large portion of Branston with breakfast, then there'll be plenty of "atmosphere" at the A&L end of the terrace. :smt003

Bands are all right for knock-about sports like ice hockey where no one seems to mind them strinking up every time the puck looks like it might enter the net.

But for gawd's sake, at rugby or football games they're such a pain.

Cheerleaders are fantastic for pre-match and half-time ogling but they don't get the crowd going. (Well, they get me going. But that's different.)

It's up to the crowd I'm afraid, and since as far back as anyone can remember, noise always starts on the terraces and not in the seats.
Kicks and scrums and ruck and roll.....Is all my brain and body need!

This is one of the "Last Bastions" of common sense. Drums pounding, Ra-Ra girls, flames leaping out of urns, ticker-tape and loud music. This is a Ruby Football Match for goodness sake. get a life.

I'm all for revving the crowd up and getting us supporters cheering the team on, but for the love of all things green, white and red, please no drums!!

A band or something at half time could work, but during the game its up to us!

A similar thread appeared not so long ago.

Please! No drums, trumpets, kazoos, diggery-doos, other music contributions after tries etc., or branston pickle!

Our comatose 'fans' reflect our demographic. New ground development means more tickets available, hopefully targetted at a non-geriatric group, (i.e. not like me). Hopefully not roundiballers either.

Too many supporters rise from their bathchairs only when they get excited and have to call for nursie. A slow 10 man game negates their need for valium, which is why it stays so quiet that Varndell would be within his rights to curl up and go to sleep, if he's ever called from the bench (bed).

Drums would wake them all from their slumbers and give them headaches, which would never do. A game in which the ball is spread wide, in which tackles are made and players play what they see in front of them would change the atmosphere. ML is taking us there, but won't get there until players learn that game - although I'm afraid some won't.

You can't expect a crowd to be enthusiastic when the players are'nt, and 'noise' won't change that.

OK it's a deal.

Bring the cheerleaders in and I'll spend the rest of the game whipping up a bit of crowd hysteria.

I might start an A&L version of the Mexican wave. When the wave comes round to you, you remain seated but wave your tartan rug in the air.

Trouble is, it does send crumbs from the fishpaste sandwiches flying around.

I see no point in a half-time band. I would be surprised if 50% of the crowd actually pay attention to what is happening on the pitch at half-time. They are going for a drink or getting rid of one they had earlier, grabbing a bite to eat, stretching their legs if they've been seated, reading the match programme or generally talking among themselves.

As mentioned earlier, the demographic of Welford Road is the problem. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of sitting amongst the Munstermen at the Ricoh. My throat is raw today after screaming on the men in red and belting out The Fields of Athenry whenever possible. There were a couple of strange looks at first to see a bloke in a Tigers shirt singing with them but I was soon accepted. At Welford Road, I am constantly waiting for a prod in the back with a walking stick and a curt "Do you mind, young man?" every time I raise my voice as Tom Varndell goes flying past my position in the Next Stand. This 'young man' will be 50 next month.

What we need is passion, not pensioners. I appreciate a lot of the seniors have been there since food rationing ended and perhaps a few of them still talk about that nice young Mr Churchill but it is not helping the guys on the pitch. Yesterday I really felt I was part of the 16th man. We need this at Welford Road all the time and not just when we are going for a 5m push-over in front of the A & L.

Before too long, it will be a case of (apologies to John Lennon) "Could you in the cheap seats and terrace, clap your hands. You up in the posh seats just rattle your dentures!"

That's a little strong Pebble...! Get a life...? Who are you, the worlds only authority on what is right in Rugby...? I seem to remember you having a go about the attitude of fans being the reason that you no longer come to WR. Well, I must say your tone stinks and I for one won't miss you. (I have attached your previous quote to remind you)

Greetings. Do what my wife, her mother and myself did. We stopped going after over a decade of being supporters, both home and away. We decided it's not the same, too commercialised, no knowledge from supporters of the game, and foul language from supporters and players. Do what we did, go and support a local club, invest in Sky and turn the sound off. Sad, but that's what professionalism brings.
Our season tickets were snapped up in the blinking of an eye. Are we missed? No! Do we miss it? No, not as it is.

So I guess we should all bring blankets to put over our knees, a flask of tea and some delightful cream horns.

Where does it state anywhere in the rules that we must all be quiet and not enjoy ourselves. People like you are always trying to stop progress and have a real "Bah Humbug, it was a lot better in my day" attitude.

I would love to see anything new that will inspire the fans and raise the players game, drums, horns or whatever, I don't mind.

The good news is that the library is open until 4.30pm on Saturdays for those of you who like silence and just want to spend time recalling the past. I hear they have an excellent history section.

Ssshhhhh............
I'm the one in the Tigers shirt on the 22. You can't miss me...!
