Thought he had a great game and controlled everything very well. I also liked the fact he called players by their first names rather than 'number 4'. The players seemed to respond well to that.

Barnes was outstanding tonight...the "tackle" on Croft right at the end should have been penalised.

But he controlled the game brilliantly and spotted virtually everything. Must be one of the top refs in the world.

Well done Mr. Barnes.....

He's a good referee but one critiscis is that he tends to call players by their first namean that just dosn't seem right you call them by the number on their back for a reason and that is that it sets a different level between refs and players.

I dont think it matters whether they are called by name or number.

The players respect the ref and it is good that the refs get on with the players.

Spreaders is also good with the players.

Agreed-supurb. Can't blame him for the James tackle-he couldn't see if arms where used or not.

Supurb reffing.

He is becoming a world class referee. Very good at imposing his will on the players, without stopping the game all the time or talking to them like 5yr olds.

Seems to have the ear and respect of all the players which must help his cause dramatically.

My only concern was Stevens try, which like Mr Kay, I was bouncing about. I was pretty sure that it constituted a double movement. The ball was underneath him and hit the floor, he had to drag it out from under his body to place it over the line.

Other than that, a brilliant performance.

Agreed, but the fact that he took the time to learn everyones name says a lot to me about his approach to the game.

I am not always impressed by his attitude, but last night he was excellent and got the level just right to allow the game to flow without descending into chaos.

The knock on Barnes used to be his 'school prefect' attitude, and the fact that he refused to ref the scrum (hardly alone there). I think he's certainly improved his player-handling skills.

As an aside, I'm really not sure that the referral to the TMO for the Murphy try was, technically, correct. I'm relaxed about using the TMO, but I'm pretty sure that the incident was outside of his remit. (Act of scoring the try).

I agree with most of the posts.
Wayne Barnes is probably the best ref in the Premiership.

For one he actually seems to understand the laws of the game!

He is consistannt.

Makes and stands by decisions.

Does not let players dictate his decisions.

Mr White, Mr Davey et al look here for some guidance
