Melrose 7s - on Sky (BBC2 Scotland) now

Post by Not a jock »

Tigers through to the semi-finals. It's on Sky on BBC2 Scotland. Perhaps a silver lining on a very grey day?

I'm up in Edinburgh at the mo, got the landlord in the pub to put the BBC on so I could watch the EDF final only to find the 7's was on. Sounds like I was lucky to miss the final!

Tigers looking good, Ulster look quite good too though.

Oh dear - looks like Tigers losing two finals in one day - some kind of record?

No shame in losing to the professional Scottish 7's team

Ben Youngs has looked good throughout, very quick, nice step. Matt Smith also played well.

Not bad considering they were playing the scottish national sevens team.

A good show from our lads anyway. A darn site better that the first team.

Well done Tigers sevens!

Losing to the Scots and the Welsh on the same day! - Not a day to remember! :smt009

Seriously though, we'll done to the young Tigers lads out there today, they put in a great account for themselves in the 7's.

I think both the tigers and Ulster can be very prowd today. Both teams played very well and lost to a Scotland side.

I really enjoyed watching the tournament, although i expected Ulster to get to the final as we were playing some good rugby.

Can anyone name the tigers starting team?

If you go on the BBC iPlayer you can watch almost all of the tournament. The Tigers did very well when you consider that they haven't had much experience together playing 7s, but the gap between our young professionals and the seasoned 7s specialists was just too much.

What was disappointing was the fractious nature of some of our players. They seemed more concerned with arguing with the ref and opposition rather than proving their point by playing the better rugby. There were a couple of flash-points which were started by our players. I hope Dusty has a serious word with those involved. We can't afford to get a reputation as whinging thugs.

Mieres had some useful runs and the commentator said that he looked a class act, but he made a muck up of a number of the re-starts. Good promise, but certainly not the finished article.

Great effort by the young players in getting to the final. :smt023

Well beaten at the end, but a good learning experience.

Ben youngs looked like is coming on leaps and bounds and if he can carry that type of form into 15s it bodes very well for Tigers no 9 position with him and Harry about for a long time to come.

I still think with a name like Billy Twelvetrees this fella should have feathers in his hair and be carrying a bow and arrow but he does not look native North American one little bit!
