If we had a vast stadium with loads of excess capacity and plenty of tickets on sale right up until kick-off time, then I for one (living 2.5 hours away from the ground) might well give up my season ticket and pick and chose my games on a match by match basis.

Hence I would spend much less, and I feel a lot of fans would do like wise.

This is a phenomena experienced by many clubs with over-sized stadiums.

I think that with the capacity at 25,000, a season ticket is still a very desirable option to ensure entry and a good seat.

As for the bars....

Buying a pie and a pint is already a painful experience at WR. How much worse can it get?

unless I've missed something, all the posts have been about the stadium and the catering. sorry to bring the tone down but what about the toilets? especially for us girlies.

munster are a weird one arent they
in europe they are the best supported team
they took over 20,000 to one away group game at twickers
in the celtic league they get sell outs for ulster and leinster
they then get 8000 for cardiff and llanelli
7000 for ospreys
and 6000 for the rest
heineken quarters at lansdowne and its 50,000 sell out every time
it'll be fascinating to se ehow many turn up at the all new thormond week in week out
Id guess every heineken will still sell out
so too the main irish derbies. therest will attract a few thousand more each week on account of the buzz and the facilities

aye munster have been well guilty of sending out 2nd teams far too often

I suspect this is a top down IRFU decision which they feel is justified by irelands consistency overpast 5 yrs

But its damaged the magners and its damaged munsters' week in week out crowds. since 2004 this has slowly improved a little and munster put out first teams Id say for just over half their magners games

I'd have liked a larger stadium-this will only hold season ticket hodlers and some of us (Who don't have ST's) would like to attend, but it'll do for now.

It won't only hold ST holders! The club currently have around 13,000 ST holders which, to my maths at least, leaves around 12,000 tickets left for away fans & non-ST holders! That's almost as many available tickets as the entire capacity of Franklin's Gardens!!!!

Why on earth Tigers fans should concern themselves with Munster attendances at all, never mind in a thread concerning developing Welford Rd, is a mystery to me. I only mentioned Thomond Park(26,000 proposed capacity) in answer to the misguided statement that Tigers would have the worlds biggest Rugby Stadia at 25,000 capacity.

I believe that it would be a mistake to go too large and that 25000 is probably about right.
Whilst I acknowledge that it was only for the Wuss game that we didn't have a 'sell-out', it should also be remembered that there was only 30121 at the Llanelli Euro semi final at Walkers which has a capacity of 32500
New capacity of 25000 = new maximum season tickets of 18750 to satisfy Euro Cup ticketing for a 'home' quarter final. Whilst I know there is a waiting list for ST's, I doubt there's 5000 in the queue ...

heres another thought - how many people are ST holders becasue they have to be to get tickets - with a bigger stadium and the amount of non saturday matches, people may decide that being selective turns out cheaper when you consider the amount of games they cannot make?

Undoubtedly quite a few. I think this was shown during talk about us going to the Walkers. I do go to every home game, as such I would retain a season ticket to save money, but I could understand if some didn't.

Is the stadium still going to be like the one now (terrarce's) or is it going to be like a bowl?
