One of the best tries from a second row?

Post by Chobbsy »

I thought Tom Croft's try on Saturday was one of the best tries I have seen from a second row, it was certainly one of the longest range tries I have seen from a second row.

It was a pretty good effort, I must admit.

On the Lions tour Simon Shaw nearly scored one from a kick off, but just missed it.
Donncha O'Callaghan and Bruce Reihana are the best players that ever lived. Don't even bother to argue with me.

And - however good Imanol Harinordoquy is, he is still an idiot

I wasn't aware that second rowers could run that far in a single go, let alone out run opposition backs! It was a brilliant effort from him.

Watching it from ground level, I couldn't see anyway one of the 3 backs chasing on the angle wouldn't get to him, it was great

Crofty has played 7s for England this season and has also been a regular for Tigers in the 7s, including playing in the last two Middlesex 7s tournaments.

He's also one of the fastest players in the Tigers squad.

Mrs Moody
No finer sight than a 2nd row at full gallop, but I doubt even Ben or Louis would claim to have covered 50m to score, including outpacing backs..... It was indeed a wonderful try.
Spoke to Richard Blaze after the game and he was soooo glad to have been subbed as he knows he would never have made the distance.

I read a quote from him where he said that he was trying to draw his man to give the pass, but then realised that he'd gone so far that it was quicker to score himself than find a defender.

Ben Kay Vs. Ireland? the one vs. ospreys (not glouceser) was his shortest ranged try at twickenham - the other was indeed from slightly longer out.

Does anyone know if there is a clip of this anywhere I missed the game.

There was that time when Johnno took the ball in his own 22, dummied, shaped to kick, handed off four defenders and then sidestepped the full back.

At least that is how he told it.

Darren Garforth scored a long range try against Sale once, he dummyed the full back, went in under the posts at the clubhouse end and then punched the nearest Sale player in celebration.

And Darren was a real prop who could scrummage, unlike Greg Holmes!
