Scuffle

Post by WareTiger »

Great atmosphere yesterday only one disappointment, a scufffle on the Crumbie terrace early into the game towards the A&L end. It looked to me like some drunken idiot swiped someone's hat in front of them. Credit to the stewards for coming in quickly to take away the offender. No place for it - only second time in thirty years I've seen it a game. Hopefully that's the last time at WR.

Sad day in a rugby ground.

Things started earlier when the guys with the hanging basket hats lined up along the walkway towards the dug-outs. They were giving the stewards some hassles as they refused to move and were being pretty aggressive.

Not something we expect or welcome at a rugby groung. Lets hope it does not happen again.

We stand at A&L:end of terrace around the 22 and I can't say I saw or heard any of that, but then I was rather surrounded and squashed in and concentrating on the game

Big shame on those involved, and hopefully a one-off.

Trouble on terrace

Post by Big Bad Clive »

Yes can confirm a scuffle broke out between two tigers fans just at the side of me very unnecessary both very drunk and totally out of order but fair play to stewards they were on it in a flash and sorted it out, never thought i would see the day that this would happen at Welford Road or any other rugby ground.

Can happen anywhere where a bunch of men (or women for that matter) congregate and drink copious quantities of ale. I am sure it wont be the first or last time this will happen.

I'm not saying there is a place for it either at a rugby game or not, i am mearly suggesting that it is likely to happen when there is a beer/man mix. I was not close to the scuffle and would have found it unpleasant if i had been.

i didn't see the scuffle, but those guys with the blummin hanging baskets on their head nearly started one down near us. They were being really loud when Goodey was trying to take the first conversion and we all kept telling them to shut up and they got a bit arsey.

Seems like the match was 'watched' by quite a few non-rugby fans by the sounds of it. Probably means that tickets were too easy to come by.

I was sat in the Crumbie Stand, towards the Clubhouse end. Near the end of the first half a group of guys, probably corporates by the look of them, decided to go to the bar around the time Goodes penalty hit the post. They weren't quiet about it and several fans told them to be quiet and sit down to which one of the corporates responded with 'you shut the **** up'.

There is no need for that type of abuse. Thankfully they didn't come back after half-time, well I didn't notice them.

I was in the A&L stand watching the scuffle. It involved one guy in a tigers shirt and 2 of the 'hanging basket' men in maroon away shirts. The former was immediately escorted and the other 2 were then taken away peacefully after 5 mins of debate with the officials. I agree that it is more likely to happen if there are quantities of alcohol, but there is still absolutely no place for it at WR. Applaud the officials for evicting the 3 people involved. Having said that, how gutted would you have been if you had become inadvertantly involved... and evicted.

I saw this as well from the Crumbie and thought that the stewards dealt with it brilliantly.
