6N Headache for Tigers

Post by adamv6 »

Sorry to be a doom and gloom merchant, but I have just been looking through our squad and it has struck me that, come the 6N, we are monumentally screwed!!

I count that we will loose about 21 players!!!! Yes thats a first 15 and the bench. Lets hope we get a fantastic start to the season!

England 1st XV
Ellis
Goode
Chuter
L Deacon
Kay
Corry
Moody
White

Ireland 1st XV
G Murphy
Jennings

Italy 1st XV
Castrogiovanni
Moreno

England Saxons
Bemand
Varndell
Vesty
Abraham
Crane
Buckland

England U21's
Cornwell
M Smith
Croft

Lets just hope

i don't think they hold saxons games when club games are happening, possibly same with U21 (though i'm not sure) and i very much doubt that jennings will be picked for ireland (not that he doesn't deserve it). i also cannot remember the last time moreno was picked for italy. so i'm not sure it's as bad as you think.
Donncha O'Callaghan and Bruce Reihana are the best players that ever lived. Don't even bother to argue with me.

And - however good Imanol Harinordoquy is, he is still an idiot

Can't be any worse than previous seasons, we've always coped before. We get the same worries every season but I have faith in our strength in depth.

We didn't cope so well last season. 3rd worst record during the 6N weeks in the GP I seem to remember.....

Long way to go yet before we need to panic. Much can happen that will affect these players being included or not.

Thats if all these are picked. I seriously think that Goode won't get in the squad with Wilkinson and Hodgson fit. Only Corry, Ellis and Moody can be considered first choice for AR, who knows what RA will think.

Jennings will have to get past 3 open-sides to get in the Ireland 22. It's a big task, but he's an awesome player.

I can't see all of those players being picked.

England 1st XV
Ellis, Goode, Chuter, L Deacon, Kay, Corry, Moody, White

Ellis is likely to go.
Goode is unlikely to be picked with Jonny, Charlie and Olly all available.
Chuter is likely after Australia.
Deacon is behind Grewcock, Borthwick, Shaw, Kay and Jones I should think, but Kay stands a decent chance of a bench place.
Corry and Moody are almost certain.
White depends purely on the fitness and form of Vickery, Stevens and Barnard.
Varndell is still a possibility for a call-up, despite being dropped. Sanderson wasn't in the Elite Squad at the start of last season, and ended up captain 8 months later.

Ireland 1st XV
G Murphy (yes)
Jennings (no - behind Wallace, Gleesona nd possibly O'Connor)

Italy 1st XV
Castrogiovanni (yes)
Moreno (no - not even been called up to their training squad)

England Saxons don't play when GP matches are on.

England U21's
Cornwell (doesn't qualify any more)
M Smith
Croft

I'd say the most we are possibly going to lose would be about 11 players. More likely to be 8 or 9. Still a blow, but nothing like as bad as you think.

I agree largely with 4071's prediction.

5, or possibly 6 to England

1 to Ireland

1 to Italy

1 to England U21s

Therefore 8 or 9 lost, rather than adam's prediction of 21!

In each case it depends (and I'm not about to spend lunchtime checking) on who we're playing.

If we're playing a "big" club that is similarly affected then it may cancel itself out.

But if we are playing a "smaller" club that has very few international players then it's a big disadvantage to Tigers to have to risk losing a game they would normally win.

The one name we are all forgetting is Jordan Crane he is a cert to captain the u21s and some pundits even say that he could make the senior squad.

There's a lot of rugby to be played before the Autumn Internationals, let alone the 6N. There's no point making too many predictions now, as there is so much that could happen before then

I understand all your discomfort at losing these players
but it shows something that that amount of players are being picked for internationals !
it shows we have so many quality players that deserve to be internationals !
and i don't know about you but I would rather have that amount of talent to use the majority of the season and let them have a few weeks off with there country, than have a poor side with no international call-ups !!!
My final point is when i do watch England , Italy or Ireland, i prefer to watch them with tigers players involved aswell !!!
