I used to be a barman at the tigers (i ran dusty's bar, on my own a lot, for a bout 3 years). There are some regular barstaff who do know what they are doing, but at most of the bars it's one or two experianced staff supported(!) by a load of agency staff from rugby - why rugby and not leicester i have no idea, who have very little experiance or knowledge, or commitment. The prices tend to go up every year by 20p, but go easy on the barstaff, i know i was often quite embarassed to charge £1.30 for a bottle of pop!!
Also, the machines which do half pints are rubbish!!!!!! Leave you little chance of pouring a proper pint!!
I know it's not an easy job, Cubby, and there are good staff there, no doubt - but surely anyone who works behind a bar should know the difference between Bitter and Carling!

This kind of links into a previous thread about record profits. The board next will no doubt claim to be running the club brilliantly because profits have gone up etc. They won't actually say profits have increased because they put season tickets up by18% (over 7times inflation) and and ale up by over 7% (nearly 3 times inflation)
This is indicative of the "powers that be" having no idea what the average supporter goes through to watch tigers. I have the pleasure of watching from the Directors Box once a year, which is super fun but bears no resemblence to the regular experience.
I set the challenge to messers Tom, Wheeler and Clayton to enjoy a match using public transport, use the regular bars, and sit on the bench. Then they might actually think about what they do and design the new stands with this in mind.
I notice that there are still season tickets available this year. This must be the first time in years that's been the case. Does this mean they have stretched the elasticity of demand too far!
mr barwell usually sits in the tetleys stand at saints. so at least he gets to sample the mood amongst 'ordinary' fans on matchday.
more to his credit though, was seeing him in the queue in the rodber bar, with the rest of us, waiting his turn after a match last season.
possibly his finest hour though, was buying a round of drinks for every saints fan at a match at orrell in the old format powergen cup. it was an away match but there were still hundreds of us so that wasnt a cheap gesture. he's not short of a bob or too but at least he's not afraid to give some of that back.
i'm making the point that there seems to be less of gap between fans and chair in northampton than in leicester. as a result kb is generally held in high regard, which doesnt necessarily seem the case with tigers.
we are not immune to price hikes though - the pork baps are up to £3.50 this year :shock:
I went to the bar in the A&L. There were about 5 girls and a bloke who looked like he was in charge. They had nothing to do until we arrived.
One of the girls pulled us two pints, took my money, gave me my change and wandered off to talk to the other girls and the supervisor.
Only she hadn't actually seen fit to pass the drinks to us. They were still on the drip trays. We stood waiting like a pair of lemons for a bit, in full view of half of the girlie gaggle.
In the end we stretched over the bar to retrieve our own pints, still in full view of the gaggle, none of whom reacted in the slightest.
Is that lack of training or lack of experience?

From the research in Scotland it would seem that it is necessary for Tigers to increase the price of beer in order to offset the loss of revenue in the bars concommittant with the smoking ban.
being too young to buy a pint here i never realised how expensive beer was! i've just been on holiday to tanzania where in one place you could get a pint for about 75p!
