It depends who you are playing and where, sometimes it makes sense to have creative players esp. at IC, others it makes sense to keep it tight and keep possession at all costs. 1st is Vesty's role, 2nd is Dan and to a certain extent Gibbo's.
Sam is probably the most gifted natural distributer at the club except the main 10's, but that can be dangerous when playing with other flair players agianst a team like Wasps for example.
Truth is all sorts of players are needed for the differing types of matches that the season brings.
However with Pat's preferred style of play expect to see more and more of Sam next season !!!

Vesty

Safe under the high ball and tries hard .Is a good steady back up but no more than that .He lacks pace and his handling is suspect when under any pressure . We desperately a class No 10 but Vesty would be even worse than Goode . Murphy is the only back ( apart from Ellis )who has flair and imagination and we need him in his best position - No 15 !

Suspect under pressure? Are you talking about Sam? Apologies if you aren't, but if you are - you're talking rubbish the guy was not player of the year for nothing. He was solid as a rock last year, I think he was one of the few players who can actually deal with the pressure!

Vesty had a tremendous season last year and was deservedly player of the season. I can't understand where the criticism comes from.

Frankly I think he's just securing for himself a permanent place on the bench.

With Vesty on there we have cover at 10, 12 and 15.

A backline of

Ellis
Goode
Varndell
Gibson
Smith
Rabeni
Murphy

would be nicely complemented by a bench of Bemand, Vesty and Tuilagi.

And, even better, we wouldn't need any pensionable Irishmen on the bench....

Leaves a pretty strong looking A side, too.
