Tips for the Open?

Post by simon redshaw »

Who do you think will win the Open at Hoylake? Its starts this Thursday. Obviously the likes of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are going to come into contention. Do you have someone you would particularly like to win? I have always admired Ernie Els as a golfer and person but he hasn't won a Major for a long time unfortunately! :( :(

Others that can come into contention include Fred Couples, Jim Furyk, David Toms, Geoff Ogilvy, Sergio Garcia, Vijay Singh, Colin Montgomerie, Padraig Harrington, Thomas Bjorn, Luke Donald etc.

I'd take a small punt on Retief Goosen.

It's not been happening for him lately and he admits to lacking confidence.

But he hit a decent 67 in the last round at Loch Lomond and if he puts in a respectable first round in The Open I think he'll end up in the final mix by Day 4.
Kicks and scrums and ruck and roll.....Is all my brain and body need!

That's true Kin. He's another one who is well worth considering. Retief Goosen has won a few Majors. His last round at Loch Lomond may give him the confidence he needs.

133 Ernie Els SA 68 65 - 11
135 Chris DiMarco US 70 65 -9

137 Miguel Jimenez SP 67 70 A Scott AUS 68 69 M Ilonen FIN 68 69

Good to see Tiger isn't running away with it at the moment.

Kin, you said Retief Goosen, could be in the mix!

Tiger will probably win, but i would like EE to win. don't really know why
Donncha O'Callaghan and Bruce Reihana are the best players that ever lived. Don't even bother to argue with me.

And - however good Imanol Harinordoquy is, he is still an idiot

I agree with you Jess on Tiger, although you never know!

I am also a fan of Ernie. Its good to see him back after his knee troubles. I like his general relaxed manner and he seems a pretty nice bloke. I hope he wins at least one more Major before he bows out (Hopefully a while yet!). He hasn't had the greatest fortune over the years in potentially winning positions.

he'll love it there. slightly further down the road is caldy where lots of prem footballers live, and also west kirby which is like a mini seaside resort with some nice pubs full of beautiful laydees, and the course itself looks across the dee estuary to the welsh hills. well it does in this weather anyway!!

Shame you're not going red as it looks a great course! I did go to a full day's play the other year when the Open was at Sandwich. Had a good day but I think though you see more on the television.

Caldy and West Kirby sound nice. The latter sounds like heaven with all those beautiful ladies!

you'd love it si. east wirral and most of the north ( the areas i've lived in ) aren't much cop but west and south is a lot posher, the west has clean beaches and lots of bars which i'm told are pretty packed and very cosmopolitan at the mo. there are supposed to be lots of really good places to eat round that way too. and caldy rufc is set in very picturesque surroundings. even the smackheads have a clean pair of rockports round that way
