A Strange Cricketing Happening

Post by simon redshaw »

Here's a a strange one!

On Thursday, two matches were started in the County Championship. One was in Division 1. The other in Division 2.

The matches were Sussex vs Kent and Essex vs Gloucestershire.

At the end of the day's play in both matches, the scores were identical after the same amount of overs. What are the odds on that happening again! Spooky!

I'd say the odds are about the same as a Pakistani fielder kicking the ball up a drainage pipe.

Donncha O'Callaghan and Bruce Reihana are the best players that ever lived. Don't even bother to argue with me.

Could well be in the realms of infinite improbability. Or possibly not.

Without going too deeply into it, I would guess something like:

(150 * 150) / 2

Which means 1 chance in 11,250.

But that's just to get the identical number of runs. If the wickets fallen were the same too, it would be much higher.
Kicks and scrums and ruck and roll.....Is all my brain and body need!
