With you on all your sentiments about the A46, Kinny. And the DoT (or whatever they're called these days) don't think it's worth widening.
What a bunch of ....... (fill in as appropriate)
Went down to Cheltenham on the Fosse the other week. Nice drive until we got stuck behind a caravan :x

The next bit of the Fosse to be dualled is supposedly the section from Kinoulton to Newark.
(But it's been on the table since I moved there in '78!)
But they want to do it on the cheap so, for instance, people from Kinoulton, Hickling, Long Clawson etc will have to go miles out of their way to get on to the road or over it. Getting to our nearest supermarkets (Keyworth) will be hopeless.
I know we shouldn't be building too many more roads but since one lot (Beeching) ripped up the railways and closed the stations and another lot chucked away any kind of rural bus service, we don't have any other way of getting around.

Kicks and scrums and ruck and roll.....Is all my brain and body need!
I heard the Widmerpool to somewhere stretch was not going to be funded in this round of funding, so EMDA were looking elsewhere for money.
These ministers or civil servants have obviously not been stuck behind something slow (tractor, caravan, little old lady/gent)

Oh well that's that then.
Apparently when the Romans used to march along that particular stretch of the Fosse, because it rests on clay, the original road kept sinking and sinking.
It got to the point where legions of soldiers could march along the road completely unseen by the good people of Widmerpool and Kinoulton because even their helmets were below the level of the surrounding fields.
You should listen to me, you know? I'm full of these sorts of inconsequential facts.

Happened again this morning. Hundreds of cars, buses, lorries, all travelling nicely at 70 mph, bypassing Leicester on the way to the M1 then suddenly it's all break lights, swerving cars, smoke in the air, and rubber on the tarmac.
Some flippin farmer doing 5 mph in the inside lane in his tractor pulling a cart load of dead branches.
If he can only do 5 mph why does he need a dual carriageway. What did he used to do when the dual carriageway wasn't there?
Well I presume he feels nice and smug that he's probably made several hundred people late for work. The tale-backs he caused were horrendous.
