Wimbledon Tips

Post by simon redshaw »

With Wimbledon coming up very soon, who are your tips?

In the mens, its hard to see much beyond Federer. Maybe also Hewitt or Roddick. Not too many others.

But I think the women's is much more open. You have the Williams sisters, Kim Cliisters, Justine Henin-Hardenne, Maria Sharapova, Lindsey Davenport etc.

As a sideline, who have been your favourite mens and womens players and doubles partnerships?

From what I've seen on the telly, he certainly was a character. Controversial but a character none the less and not a bad tennis player also. When he was playing was he the sort of bloke the ladies liked?

Ilie's playing in the tennis challenge on Saturday night. Sadly, I'll miss it but you can have another look at him.

Donncha O'Callaghan and Bruce Reihana are the best players that ever lived. Don't even bother to argue with me.

And - however good Imanol Harinordoquy is, he is still an idiot

er...Sharapova???

should be great fun. my mum has been before and says its fantastic. some family friends gave my mum and dad two tickets to the mens final 2 years ago, because they couldn't go. after that my mum has absolutely in love with Federer it is actually quite funny

Interesting that Henman will play Federer in Round 2 if they both win their opening games .......wouldn't it be great if Tim could spank him (so to speak !)

is it not just venus williams in it this year? i thought serena had virtually given up. i read that she is outside the top 100 now and would need to be given a wild card to compete in any major tournament? no?

henman is rubbish. england pin all their hopes on him every year and every year he crashes and burns. british media has a lot to answer for.

im for federer most definitely. womens is much more open it has to be said. henin-hardenne doesnt seem to do so well at wimbledon. she played really well in the french open, but the grass courts dont seem to suit her. venus hasnt been playing well as of late so i would like to see her back on form. sharopva is possbily the best bet but you never do know.

Orla....I think that this year could be different for Henman...all the media "pressure" is on Andy Murray and Henman is unseeded and not in contention (as far as the media go). After his performances at Queens, he looks pretty good to me and i have a hunch that he may run Federer close, although to actually beat him would be another thing !

In the women's I agree with Sim, Sharapova is my favourite !!! ...and on the tennis front, I have always had a soft spot for Clijsters (spelling ?)...I hope she wins.

Henman will lose to Federer. Federer will win.

Sharapova should win the women's event.

Do they have equal prize money yet?

No they don't - some people (can't remember who) have been stamping their little feet about it. Was it Terry Wogan?
