The (Almost) Offical World Cup Thread and Bar

Post by WharfedaleTiger »

Seeing as there are only a few days to go i thought I'd start this up to try and keep all the World Cup chat on ehre so we don't have a million threads screaming about how Maldini seemed to break his leg and then played on and how ronaldinio scored an overhead-kick from his own penilty area.

Or somthing like that anyways.

So anyway, come in, come in to the WRCC World Cup Bar. Sit down, relax, watch the match on the big screen in the corner and then discuss the match over a quiet pint with all your other football loving mates. If you want anything to drink just ask Richard the bartender.

And any Holliganism will be punish by barring.

Personally I can't wait. I love rugby, I love football. A world cup in either sport magnificently accounts for a large chunk of my life at that given time. And it can be social too. Pub, mates house, invite guests round to my flat... all sorts. And its not just about England either. Its all about watching the teams you never get to see too often. From Brazil and Argentina right down to following the minnows. Iran v Angola? You betcha I'll be watching!

If there's one thing you get from a football World Cup that you don't get from a Rugby World Cup then it is smaller teams causing upsets. the nature of the game of rugby means you are very unlikely to ever see a minnow turn over a big side. Yet it happens in football.

I can't wait, I know others are with me!

i cant wait for the world cup. mainly cos i get sucked in by any major sporting tournament and become obsessed!!! another reason is my city and county have decided to support poland cos of all the poles living in the area (seriously, its ridiculous!!!) like Iain said, it is soooooooooo much fin watching little countries wreak havoc. the showboating done by brazil is like magic and so enthralling to watch. and of course, i wanna be sitting there watching avidly when england get kicked out!!!! no offence now, but its instilled in me and one of the greatest irish pasttimes!

No offence taken, Orla. I heard an interesting footie song about Jack Charlton on the way down to Cardiff!! Looks like Poland have got great support with you lot supporting them! It is always intersting when non-fancied countries do well. Some of the African countries have done quite well at World Cups. My favourite second team is Brazil and agree that they are magic and enthralling to watch. My footie team Arsenal have a Brazlian player, Gilberto Silva - I am not sure if he is in the Brazilian squad.

Certainly sir, extra cold?

And, dear sir, that is why our most esteemed owner set up this bar, so the rest of will be free of WC chat.

My sister is really enjoying the world cup, because she's the only member of our family ever to break anything. Years ago she broke her 5th metatarsal and when she told anyone they used to all go "your what?"

Not anymore!

No thank you, the normal Guinness please. No fancy glasses and no shamrock in the head either.
No fancy glasses?! No Shamrock?! You insult me sir, but there you go, you take what custom you get these days. *Pours guiness and selects regular shaped glass* so what do you gents think of these Rooney pictures then?
