Yeah i agree John. I sit in the Goldsmith and never hear swearing or booing, some sarcastic jeering that's it. In fact the only time I've heard is booing is when we lost at home to LI,might've been first game of the season but then that was directed more at Cockers and seemed to be the beginning of the end.

Swearing in a public place is not necessary. Although most of the Tigers fans are fine I've encountered too many foul mouths at WR spouting abuse at players and refs I'm afraid so I rarely go anymore as I won't pay to be in such company.
Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.

May I suggest that those decrying such behaviour do a bit of research on the origin of our basest vernacular and why it has become socially frowned upon. There was a time when it wasn't.

Still, that was then, this is now. If you don't like it you should report it - although I'm not entirely sure what the Stewards are supposed to do about it, its not like the offenders are urinating in public or something. If I was ejected from the ground for expressing Anglo Saxon displeasure, I'd be on to a solicitor personally.

For me it is something we have prided ourselves on for years, kickers are shown respect and that we are a club for the whole family, so booing in any shape or form and swearing should be a no no at Welford Road. For years this has been self policed by those around, long may it continue.

Actually G.K the research evidence suggests people who swear are more articulate and more intelligent than those who dont, and probably happier too as they use this vocabulary to express their emotions not bottle them up. See a report here

Ah so by that resaerch all I need to do to improve my brain power is to go round effing and blinding at every opportunity?

Of course, of course I see it now - how stupid it was of me to waste all those years at University.

I doubt it works that way G.K & I don't think the researchers are claiming that either! 😏

More often than not, the bad language slips out either in the heat of the moment or maybe instinctively.
For instance, while I was watching the match on the internet, when Kitchener dropped that scoring pass, instead of saying "Oh dear, what a shame", I believe the f word that I uttered was heard by my neighbour, who was probably effing and blinding ("merde" and "putain de merde", in French ) during the Toulouse match against Pau!

For the more sensitive souls, you'd better not come to a match here in France as the language and the booing and jeering is ten times worse than at Welford Road!!

Based on reading the article I don't see how that can be suggested. The research seems to show that people who know most words also know most swear words. Nowhere does it suggest that this is the group that uses them most. Without reference to any research except personal experience I would suggest that, as a generalisation, those who swear most actually use a very limited number of profanities. I hope these 'researchers' didn't receive any public funding for this 'work'.
I am neither clever enough to understand nor stupid enough to play this game

I can recall going to the Filbert Street ground in the mid 1960's and mixing in the crowd with opposition supporters with no expectation of any trouble. Welford Road was usually fairly empty on a Saturday afternoon at that time and travelling fans were a rare sight. Today I doubt you can go anywhere wearing a team shirt without some sort of abuse coming your way.

The worst abuse I have experienced has been at Gloucester. In the past I have been jostled, sworn at, and even had stones thrown at me and my son.

On one occasion I had to rescue a young nurse from Leicester who had gone into the "Shed" wearing a Tigers shirt. She was jostled and kicked. I went to the station with her after the game, and made sure she that she got safely on her train. The poor girl had been terrified by her experience.

I can remember being in the Members' Stand with my dad in the 60's seeing 'Away Fans' being escorted in large blocks to Filbert St by the Police.
