Yes, I agree. His plangent lyrics and melancholic voice were part of my youth and early adulthood. When Marianne his ex-girlfriend and muse died a little while ago he said he would soon follow. Very sad and slightly strange to share these thoughts on a rugby forum!

One of those artists who had a knack for capturing the uncertainty and ambiguity of life with humour and depth - a true songwriter whose skill is matched only by Tom Waits and Nick Cave.
