I'm still embarrassed to admit it but mine was Back Home by the 1970 England World Cup squad.

According to my grandson Thomas (1st birthday today/looks a bit like Dan Cole), my first purchased-by-myself-on-the-day-of-release record was Joseph Meyseder’s Opus 59 in G major which he first performed on Top of the Pops in 1844. I think it was part of his ‘Glam Rock’ collection. He followed it up with his version of ‘Why do my balls weigh 4 times as much in the rain?’ (a rugby classic down our way) a couple of years later. (Well – I had to bring rugby into this answer somehow!)

In reality, my first bit of vinyl was Joe Brown’s ‘Picture of You’ from 1962 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EE-EFKv1qn8.

The first I bought for myself was Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel "Come Up And See Me" but my boyfriend at that time bought me Pilot's "January" because he thought it was amusing to call me "Jan-You-Arry" ( we didn't last long!)

The first vinyl I bought was "The Jungle Book" album from a record shop in Market Place, Loughborough, circa 1969.
I still have the album.

I have no idea what was the first CD I bought. Probably Mahler's First Symphony.

My first vinyl was the Rolling Stones first 33 rpm album, I then went into South Wigston and bought Come On their first single. A few weeks later I saw them at the Art and Tech college at the Newark.

Mine was when I started my apprenticeship and I went out and bought myself a music centre. (For all you youngsters out there it's a record player, tape cassette player and radio all in one!)

My first vinyl was ELO's Out of the Blue double album. Still play it although on CD now occasionally :smt001

That too was one of my first LPs and it was one of the first albums I downloaded to my iPod. It's still on there.

"Jailhouse Rock" the first 78, "Diana" by Brian London, the first 45!

For the Helen Shapiro fan, I saw her headline at the Granada in Grantham. Opening act? The Beatles!

Mine was 'She Loves You' :smt003

As far as I can recall, my first CD was Greig's Holberg Suite & Sibelius Finlandia. Mahler's 1st Symphony was not long behind it. Gray - have I found a Mahler soul mate?

There's only one thing better than driving to work along country lanes on a warm summer's evening, window down, listening to Mahler...

and that's driving home in the morning.
