Floods?

Post by byrontiger »

Cant move down here. All the roads are flooded to about 2ft.

How has it been in your area?

If we get flooded, you can say goodbye to most of southern Derbyshire as we're approximately 400 feet above sea level here.
Whatever you do, don't argue. We might never hear from you again.

We have no floods up here, no thanks to the Environment Agency who are bl**dy useless. Being surrounded by agricultural land, which can absorb immense amounts of water before the water table rises too hign, even though we're only a few feet above sea level.

We also have a series of relief ditches dug over the centuries which the EA, bless 'em, say then can no longer maintain.

However, the major problem comes in concrete jungles like Hull where the water has nowhere to go except down a few drains that can't cope with the volume.

Surprise surprise! There's some flooding in the SE of England so guess what the main news item was on the BBC's 6 o'clock news tonight.

No unusual flooding here BJ. Water table is high - but not abnorbably. And we still have a hosepipe ban!!

Considering we have had non stop rain for weeks, it is surprisingly OK here beside the Tamar. My village has 3 rivers flowing through it, but they seem to be doing their job and coping with the run off.

I've had problems logging in. BJ not my fault what the BBC reports, guess that a flooded hospital (including morgue) will attract attention.

The problem is mainly too much building on flood plains. Yet the planning councillors allow more and more. It's just going to make life a misery.

Believe there may be a problem with cookies.

Our barns are choc-a-block with wet Swallows.

I suspect some of the younger ones are querying as to why they left sunny South Africa and flew 6,000 miles to come here!

Loughborough town centre has a couple of inches of standing water in places, that midday storm was a tad to much for the drains. A lot of shops shut due to the flooding and some market traders looking a little disgruntled.

Around 11.00-11.30 today it went so dark here I had to put the big light on to work as I couldn't read the book in front of me and I was only sat three feet away from the window at the time. The thunderstorm was short and sharp but luckily the council managed to clean the drains last week so we didn't get our usual lakes of standing water on the roads.
