I would second the comment about the USA. There is far more in common with the French in terms of shared experiences and values; I find many very affable Americans to have a very weird value-set; the nearest to us is in the NE e.g. Maine, but many there are relatively recent immigrants from here.
Whatever our leaders decide - and it won't be anything to do with our views or interests - we will remain geologically where we are and have to manage that proximity with some grace and practicality.

England could always apply to join with an independent Scotland, and join with the Scandinavians! :smt002

It is up to the federal government not to supress the minotity.
